Hey all,
I was wondering if anyone interviewed in Ontario, and if so what the experience was like.
Thanks a bunch!
Hey all,
I was wondering if anyone interviewed in Ontario, and if so what the experience was like.
Thanks a bunch!
I'm from Windsor and I interviewed in Toronto. My interview was with a SGU grad who's doing family medicine in Toronto now. It was a very relaxed interview held in his office after he finished his clinic. First 10 min went towards the essay we were required to write. He made some tea and we chatted for about 45 min about the school, island, money, what to expect and the road back to Canada.
I also had some questions ready to ask about the school and his chosen specialty.
A friend of mine who's from Toronto had to go to Buffalo for his interview... so I'm not sure how the school decides who goes where for their interview... I mean it would have been easier for me to go to Detroit if they had a grad willing to interview me.
Hope this helps. Good luck.
510 points I'm from TO and I had my interview here
The interviewer was an SGU grad doing a Peds residency at SUNY
It was just as relaxed as Canmark's interview, minus the tea.
After the essay, I remember being asked two questions distinctly:
-Why Medicine
-How do you think public perception of doctors has changed over the years
I tried to answer the questions, tie them together...and keep talking about why I was interested in medicine and personal experiences that helped motivate and inspire me
I'd say avoid just answering the question succinctly. I think its more of a spring-board and the more like a conversation you can turn it into.the more at ease you'll feel and the better the interview will go.
We also talked for a bit about the difficulties ahead getting back into Canada. Talked about the fact that Carms opened up first-iteration and new policies adopted by the CPSO that's supposed to make life easier for IMG's who've done their residency in the US
The interviewer also talked about her personal experiences and journey through SGU. Very informative.
Definitely have a few questions you want to ask.
This is easier said than done..but do relax. These are not the 3-panel 'interrogation' style interviews.
Good luck!

Thanks for the reply guys.
How important do you think the interview is? At my Ross interview, I was told that a panel decides who gets in and who doesn't. But at the same time, I got the distinct impression that the interviewer holds a lot of sway in the matter. Did you guys get in? How did you prepare for it?
Thanks again.
510 points I got in...interviewed in TO with a gastroenterology fellow from NY. The interview is very important. No one who interviewed with me that day got in. The interview itself was alright, but he threw in some ethics questions which threw me off guard. The rest is standard.
You can't really prepare for it. I guess the only thing you can do is read the globe and mail for a week before the interview.
G'luck
510 points hey everyone..can i ask who you interviewed with? I can't find any information on my interviewer--just wanted to guage whter the interview will be informative/formal, etc.
thanks!
