What exactly is the white coat ceremony, I know it happens on the first day of med school. How is it done at SGU?

Give life while you live yours everyday, Thats what a doctor did today!
During orientation actually. You get a white coat and there is a processional into the hall and speakers and then they call up five students at atime to the stage and prof's put your white coat on you, pic gets taken and then you file off. recessional and then there is a reception afterwards. Youa lso recite the physicians oath

While I don't necessarily disagree with this, I know a lot of other schools do the white coat ceremony before starting too.
I think it's more maintaining the tradition of medicine as a calling, and thus you're called to serve...this focus is largely diluted of medicine these days, but I'm sure was relevant at some point...
510 points Does anyone know the actual date this takes place for the Aug 2007 class? I'm heard both Aug 20 and 21.
Thanks

Upon inspection of the Oath, I don't think it is congratulatory whatever. I think it reinforces the ethics that must constantly run through the veins of a thoughtful, caring physician.
Your point of view is really cynical. I think there should be a bit of idealism. Don't you?
