OHIP coverage for GSP

Just a question for any ontario citizens currently in the Global Scholars Program. Do you have to buy the school health insurance or is our OHIP coverage good enough?

re: no

no - OHIP will not cover you outside of the country

(this point is debatable - but the point here is that you will need to purchase secondary helath insurance while being outside of canada)

I would suggest using Blue Cross. It's alot cheaper than the school's health coverage.

you need to turn it certain documentation to the school by a certain date, otherwise they'll automatically enroll you in the school's plan.

Cheers,

Silenthunder

blue cross is good...but i found travel insurance to be cheaper. Theres a company called Expert Travel Financial Security that covers you outside of the country for one trip at a time...its about $150 and covers you for the entire semester (if you plan on coming bak in december) and then you can just renew it every semester. Thats if you dont mind not having health insurance (other than ohip) when ur back in canada.
