SGU admission requirements are not absolute, but you need decent grades

Here's an email exchange between me and SGU admissions. I think it can help some of you out:

me: I have one year (2 four-month courses) in physics without lab. Can it substitute for your one semester of physics with lab a component?

SGU: Please tell me your overall qualifications, school name, grad date, GPA and MCAT score if relevant. Also, what was your physics grade?

me: I'm going to graduate from the University in Canada next April. My cumulative GPA is 3.60, and my GPA in my last two years is 3.89. I took the MCAT 3 times:

    1st: ** 8 PS 9 VR 5 WS M
    2nd ** 11 PS 11 VR 9 WS Q
    3rd ** 11 PS 12 VR 7 WS O

I took Physics 1, and Physics 2. My grades in those courses are 88 and 94 respectively.

SGU: With your qualifications, it seems as if you would be a strong candidate for our program. We would accept your Physics 1 and 2 to fulfill our requirement.

    Cheers

I asked again to further clarifiy their stance on this issue, and this is what they said:

    > Yes. We would consider the two Physic courses without lab to fulfill our
requirement. Of course, no determination can be made until we have receipt of the application and all required documents.

    I'm good to go.

    don't worry

You seem to be a very strong candidate for SGU. You may not have had physics lab, but your GPA and MCAT scores sre great. With your grades and other experience (volunteer. etc.) I am almost positive that you will be admitted to SGU.

But, nevertheless, clarify these things with SGU. I feel that you are a much stronger candidate than many students I personally know.

Are you talking about my scores? My current VR and WS scores could be higher, but a 30O is decent for SGU, isn't it?

Anyways, the issue is pretty much settled. SGU takes a bit of a holistic approach with regards to their course requirements.

Edit: thanks for the help guys

dopetown, with a 3.60 gpa and a 30 O mcat you would make a good candidate for u.s./canada admission..if you haven't already applied, its worth looking into.

if you take the mcat 3 times do the scores get avg? or is it the best composite score?

    good luck

you can't make any comment based on info like this. it depends. the bottom line is sgu wants to know two things 1) you'll make a competant decent doctor and 2) you'll pass the boards/ "low grads good mcat" or whatever doesnt give any parameter for comment.
