    clothes?

so i read the other thread that talks about gnd bring a third world country and a friend of a student being jacked at gun point for her purse. OK, then it seems that wearing expensive clothes/jewelery (by grenada standards, not US standards) is not a good idea. Is this right? Also, while we are talking about it, what kind of clothes did y'all bring. how many pants and shirts and hats and etc....did y'all bring. Are there stores nearby and if yeah, what kind of stuff do they sell? I know, awkward questions but hey i dont feel like getting jacked because i brought clothes i shouldnt have.

the reason why i ask is becuase i know someone going to med school in the domincan republic and he said people idolize some of the hip hop clothing seen on musicians so having anything like that on can get you hurt since they think that you are RICH if you are wearing a $120 jordan jersey.

keep the clothing simple and cheap. you will most likely leave your clothe here during the break and in storage. it gets moldy and stuff and there is a chance that clothing can mold and smell.
and yes obviously you dont want to wear anything either clothing or jewelry wise that will draw attention to yourself. think common sense, what will you wear if you have to walk through the bronx or brooklyn (altho i am not implying that gnd is like those areas, but that can help you in getting the right mindset)

and its ALWAYS hot here. i dont understand how ppl wear jeans here...i never did and probably cant even if i wanted to. the temperature here doesnt get below 75 here i think, including the low temp in the night.

After Grenada, I may never wear pants again.
    Or shoes for that matter.

I know. I live in shorts. I've worn my jeans exactly once in St. Vincent this term.

But, prepare to melt in the hospital during rotations. It was extremely uncomfortable at times especially since we have to wear our white coats on top of everything else.

you can bring them back. but remember by the time you are done with a term here, you will have accumulated more stuff while down here such as BOOKS! and those take up alot of rooms and weight, especially the first term books.

and also by not bring some stuff back, it gives you more room and weight to bring down with you food and stuff. also by leaving your stuff here, you dont have to worry aboyt the airline possibly delaying or losing your luggage with all your clothes , cuz you will already have clothese stored

I know a few people that have really nice clothes here, like their closet would have a few thousands of dollars in clothes and accesories in it. And they left them here over break, and but they would take care of their cloths and would dry clean stuff and nothing happened to them except for the occasional wine spill. It all depends on what you're used to wearing during the hot days of summer.

How about wrist watches? Is it really that unsafe to wear a nice watch around? I have a Rolex Explorer II that I've been accustomed to wearing over the years and practically all the stuff I've accumulated over the years are luxury items (had some good years on the Street). I read there's no dry cleaning down there so I'm gonna have to downgrade my wardrobe, but I do want to bring with me some material comforts.

    Where'd you read that?

Hell, even in this thread RussianJoo said people in Grenada are drycleaning their clothes.

Basically, forget that you read that cause it's incorrect.

You should bring whatever makes you comfortable. As with anywhere, use your judgment about when to wear the Rolex. Not everyone would be able to spot one on someone's arm...
