Also all of the letter buildings are old and like all the buildings on the island are made out of cinder blocks with reinforced metal skeletons, thus they wireless routers will not work in those buildings. The school will either have to put a wireless router into every suite or hardwire the rooms like they did with the superdorms. This will not only take forever but will be extermely expensive. The school will also have to order the routers from the states( that alone will take a month or more, some of you might remember how long it took for the school to put in AC into the gym. When they said it was all wired up, the longest part was for the school to get the AC vents from the states.) So I don't see anyway that all the dorms will have internet by the end of this term. They would have to drill through the walls of the dorms to run the cables, they can't possibly do that while the dorms are full of students studying at all times. At best it will be done over the winter or summer breaks.

I haven't seen any major upgrades to the internet in the library or the lecture halls. Once the dorms get hooked up, the internet will be slower than 56k, simply because everyone will have their computers on 24/7 and will be downloading. The school is simply splitting the lines they already have to provide internet to the dorms. Unless the school bumps up it's internet speeds the internet will be very slow. So having internet in the dorms isn't necissarily a good thing. I would rather have fast internet in the library and other public study spaces, instead of having something slower than dail up in my room and everywhere else on campus.
People have their computers on 24/7 already, they're just downloading in the library and other public study spaces. The bandwidth in the afternoon in the lecture halls already slows down to low-end DSL speeds. The school is going to be forced to upgrade their bandwidth anyway, considering the number of new students they're planning on adding (expanding Arts & Sciences and a Nursing School on the way).

well it might not be possible for them to upgrade their bandwidth, the island just has so much bandwidth. and people aren't leaving their computer on at night or during the day while in classes right now...

having internet in the dorm rooms can now also give SGU another advertising slogan.

attention all, apply to sgu, the only med school in the caribbean that offers internet in the dorm rooms, and helps you to get the MD

In my opinion, that guy A.S. on SGU Talk is one of the most prompt, professional people I've ever dealt with at this school. If only the actual academic/administrative departments were that good.

You post a problem or query and he gets back to you within a day usually.

Actually SGU isn't the only caribbean school that has internet in the dorms. my friends at AUA have had internet all along, and I am sure many other schools like AUC have it as well.
