Do you guys typically carry a whole lot of books to class every day? Do you carry the laptop to class every day? I'm tryiong to figure if I need some fancy big bookbag with a laptop section or if a regular bag is sufficient.

The only time you might transport a lot of stuff + laptop would be if you plan on setting up shop and studying somewhere other than your room (e.g., library, study rooms, labs) for a few hours and need your book(s) and other materials.
In 4th term I regularly carried my laptop, at least one textbook, and a stack of notes that I was making my way through that day.
if you live off-campus you may need to carry more than that.

In a previous life, I lugged around a nice big shoulder bag with a 7 pound Toshiba and a lot more weight in books up a nice hill to my classes. I would highly recommend against that. I actually don't like shoulder bags now because when they're heavy, they don't allow you to balance the load well. Get a good laptop backpack or, better yet, albeit more expensive, get a good backpack and a good laptop sleeve (such as a Waterfield) that you can remove from the pack when you don't need it. Having a lighter laptop helps too![]()
From personal experience, I would advise that you get a decent sized bag with a laptop compartment that has a separate opening. Here are a couple of things to consider.
1) You'll be flying alot the next few years and its a hassle to dig through a regular school bag to pull out your computer passing through airport security and when you pass through customs in Grenada. I recently purchased a bag with a side opening laptop compartment, its alot more convenient.
2) If you smash up your computer while its in an unprotected bag, like I did using a regular school bag, its a hassle to repair while at school.
3) With a larger bag, its nice to have the option of filling it up with stuff if you need to, ie. filling it up with groceries and taking the bus.

Marco has a good idea. That's what I did. Good PC and a good laptop bag. Targus makes a very sturdy and very spacious laptop bag. Next, if you ever intend to live off campus, never leave your computer home alone. You'll come back one day to find it gone! Got bars on your windows? So did we. Didn't stop an ~eight year old from squirming through ours. The bars formed rectangles that were 6"X9". If you go out at night, hide your PC. You'll be doing yourself a favor to be very cautious about petty theivery, because it won't feel so petty if/when it happens to you. Have fun everyone!

510 points I prefer the remote control backpack that follows you to class. All you need is the sensor neckless link up and its your best new buddy when climb those hills
It's someplace simple where we could live. Something only u can give. Thats faith n trust n peace while we're alive, The one poor child that saved this world, There's 10 million more who probably could, If we all just stopped n said a prayer for them. So take these words, sing out loud, Cuz everyone is forgiven now, Cuz tonight's the night the world begins again. I wish everyone was loved tonight, n somehow stop this endless fight, Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days. - GOO GOO DOLLS

Another route you can go is get a nice spacious normal backpack, and then purchase a laptop 'sleeve' (an insulated compartment solely for your laptop, kinda like spandex almost), and then placed the 'sleeved laptop' into your bag with books.
Its well protected, and saves u money instead of purchasing a 'laptop' backpack which can be expensive.
Good luck.
