how hard/dificult is it for the average sgu grad to get an emergency medicine residency??? i know this is relative, but i havent seen that many that choose/attain this specialty. whats the cause? if im really interested in em, should i pick another carribean/foreign school thatll give me better chances w/ this specialty or are they all the same?

There are plenty on the '06 residency list. I saw George Washington, UConn, U of Florida, Einstein, UMDNJ, et al. I think for 3-4 years there was at least one student going into Duke's program as well. I don't know much about how competitive it is, but a fair number of SGU'ers are doing it so it can be done.

I have been following EM residencies. I have spoken to an SGU grad who attained an EM residency. Also, I have been looking at the SGU percentage of EM residencies vs. US schools. Additionally, I have looked into the Match lists from their website. Looks good to me. Do some research. I have concluded that per capita, SGU is comparable to US schools. I have been told that to attain EM, you need to do well, though. That's true for any competitive residency, though.

EM is getting more and more competitive. on a scale, its more difficult than IM but easier than say surgery.
i have done extensive research, and one usually need about a 220 on step 1, but there has been ppl that got in with much lower score. but they all have one thing in common, EXCELLENT EM rotation grade AND rec letter from an EM physician
