Question about housing - SD1 and SD2

For those of you that have been thought first term housing, can you please give small breakdown as to what SD1 and SD2 are like? I believe first termers are placed in only these two dorms, correct?

Does every room in both dorms have its own bathroom, or are there community bathrooms?

Do you suggest requesting one of the dorms over the other?

I know that single occupancy housing is very limited...does anyone know the housing dept. goes about choosing students for singles? I'm sure most, if not all, request it on the housing form. Thanks.

-Yes, the great majority of first-termers are placed in SD1 and 2. A few are randomly placed in the lettered dorms, and some are at Grand Anse.

-Every room has it's own bathroom with shower. No community bathrooms except adjacent the 3rd fl study rooms.

-I don't think you can request SD1 or SD2, just True Blue vs. Grand Anse. If you could, here are some pro's and cons for people to obsess over:
SD1: Closer to med classes, has own water tank (so rarely water problems), in Fall 2005 did have significant problems with A/C (chillers needed $10,000US in repairs), but should be fixed by now. Can't use study room until 5PM as classes are held there.
SD2: Closer to Vet classes (hence known as the party dorm), more noise from SD4 construction (though are they finished with this yet?). Can use study room 24/7.

Other than that, the 2 buildings are exactly the same.

-Singles are assigned by lottery that upperclass students participate in before you get there. Those that are unsuccessful in the lottery are placed on a waiting list (usually ~10pages long).

-You can do a search, many of these topics have been covered in detail previously.
