THank you very much,
this depends where you'll be living. in the SDs which i believe house most of the new students you don't need it. however, you will need one if you leave in the buildings named with a letter.

All that being said and done, I'm going for natural selection on this aspect and say that if you don't know that your computer needs a surge protector, you deserve any consequences that occur from not using one. Do you put leaded or diesel gasoline in your car also? Or take 10 pills from any random bottle that you find when you have a headache? If you're lazy enough to not do proper research, I'm all for you forking out money over and over again.

THank you very much,

not only do i use a transformer but i also use a surge protector to protect the transformer. i got a 500watt transformer for $35 in the states. make sure its one that is made to be used all the time, the ones from radio shack are only ment to be used for short periods of time and with heating supplies like hair dryers and what not.

yeah you need a huge transformer for a hair dryer. i don't even use one at home so this wasn't a problem for me. i agree about not bringing down a transformer. buy it down there.

u're right i don't need a hair dryer i don't even use a hair comb.. its all natural, wake up and go.... but some people will see that the cheap converters from radio shack convert 220 to 110 and put out like 2000watts, and weigh like 1lbs or less. and they migh want to buy them thinking that they can just use them to transform the power for their computers and what not but I am telling them not to do it because it's not ment for that and the people at radio shack aren't that much help (from personal experience).

but i do have to say that my roommates and I are using the converter from radio shack to power our george forman and it's been working fine thus far (4months and counting).
