potential student needing advice
OK, I'm looking at applying to sgu for jan 2007 start. I really need advice on applying, writing the ps and essay bit firstly. I have a BSc 2:1 Psychology and an MSc cognitive neuropsychology and work as a health care assistant for the nhs in the uk. I'm just taking my a levels in chemistry and biology. I've applied to uk graduate courses for two years with no joy, but good MSAT and GAMSAT scores....very, very frustrating!!!
I really want to hear from UK students as I need to find the funding for the course and I'm worried about not getting a job on graduation as there is even more competition for employment and the uk grads seem to get first shot. Anyone been lucky with charitable trust funding or loans??? Be great to hear about any UK person's experiences, weekly timetable, holiday time, hitches, laptops, equipment and anything else you wish you had known when you started. Anyone already graduated and now working in UK. Really can't wait to get some feedback, thanks a million |

I take it you are a current student from the USA then??? How have you found things so far, is it easy to get work in the USA after training and to organise placements?? St Georges looks amazing and I know I would love the experience, I guess I'm just trying to make sure that I'm being realistic in my expectations. How have you found things financially?? Have you found that colleagues on placements have been positive towards you? St Georges looks just as good, if not better than the standard medicine route (certainly a much broader experience than regular UK med schools!!), but I wondered whether people may see it as a back route or easier option?? I know that some of the consultants I work with consider anything outside of UK to be not as good, but they are probably just being old fashioned about it, and perhaps don't want to believe that training could be any better elsewhere???
How does the accomodation work? I saw on one forum that most students share a room for the first term, and that you get matched with a student...think I will find that pretty strange after having my own space for so long!! Do you get college accomodation throughout the two years at grenada or do you have to find alternatives later on?? How about during vacation time, do you have to move out, or do you pay more rent?? Sorry to ask so many questions, its just a little tricky to get my head around coming from the UK as I'm not familiar with the American systems, cable tv, money, education, etc let alone being in the caribbean and being new to med school!!! All very exciting though! |
