Post INTO St George's, University of London (UK)- Courses for Int'l Students

    Hi-

St George's, University of London in partnership with INTO University Partnerships is offering degree programs in International Medicine (Bsc/MBBS- 6 years), International Graduate Medicine (MBBS- 4 years) and in Biomedical Sciences (BSc Hons) that are exclusively for international students. This means that there are programs with spaces for students who are not UK or EU citizens to study in London at the St George's, University of London campus with is co-located with St George's Hospital.

The International Graduate and International Medicine courses are beneficial to students who wish to be exposed to both the UK and US medical systems as two years of US clinical experience is built into the curriculum.

Staff from INTO St George's, University of London are currently holding seminars and attending student fairs across the US, Canada and internationally. Check out INTO SGUL : INTO UK to learn about the upcoming events as well as the available course options.

If you have any questions about these programs please feel free to reach out to an INTO staff member by emailing: namerica(at)sgul.ac.uk or you can submit an inquiry through our website at INTO SGUL : INTO UK.

This program looks quite interesting. Is there any possibility for scholarships and would you know what they would be amounted to?
But if we hope for what we do not yet have, then we wait for it patiently.

    Hi-

At this time we don't have confirmed scholarships but that may change. For US and Canadian students there are student loans available. For the US there's Sallie Mae and US Federal Loans and for Canada it can go through CanLoan.

    Hi-

For the 6-year BSc/MBBS (International Medicine) program the UKCAT would be required. Interviews will be held both in London as well as in North America. The North American interview location hasn't been set yet but most likely it would be in the East Coast in the US. So if you want to take a trip to see all the sights in London you can also combine it with the interview if you're selected.

How long is the Foundation programme ? Also, What would happen if i were to enroll in The International Foundation in Medical, Biomedical and Health Care Sciences and wanted to get into the medicine programme at St. Georges afterwards?
Lastly, would it be to late to write the UKCAT if i intend to enroll in September 2012?

    Thankyou

    Hi-

The Foundation program is three terms (9 months). The Foundation program leads to four different pathways of study for students at SGUL should they meet the admissions requirements. if you're looking to take the Foundation program and then transition into the International Medicine program you will still need to take the UKCAT- also, transition into another med program after Foundation isn't guaranteed. Students still have to meet the academic requirements.

Throughout your studies in the Foundation program, INTO advisors will be available to make sure that you're meeting your academic goals as well as assisting you with applying into the International Medicine program.

If you're looking to to instead apply to the September 2012 course start date for the International Medicine (6-year) program (not Foundation program), then you would need to have a completed UCAS application by May 15, 2012- this includes UKCAT scores. If you haven't taken the UKCAT yet, then you will need to schedule an exam date. The UKCAT testing period is between July-October each year, so if you haven't taken it then you would need to take it when the testing period opens up. This would mean that you'd miss the May 15, 2012 deadline to apply for Fall 2012 admission into the International Medicine program.

    Hi,

I have several questions that I'd appreciate your help with.

    1. Is this program LCME accredited? If not, has SGUL applied for accreditation?

    2. I've heard that some states in the US require that you complete your entire medical education within the same country. Is this true? And if so, is SGUL's INTO medicine program exempted from this rule?

    3. I didn't happen to hear about this program until a few days ago and I have already submitted my UCAS application with 4 medical school choices. Would it be possible to remove one of the choices and replace with SGUL?

Thank you so much for your time!

    Hi-

Thank you for your interest in our programs and for sending over these questions! In regards to your questions, please find the answers below:

    1) No, the program is not LCME accredited as SGUL is a UK school and is not located in the US or Canada.

    2) When applying to residency programs in the US it's always best to check to see if the state you're looking to study in has any restrictions. Graduates from SGUL are able to apply to residency programs in the US upon receiving ECFMG certification (diploma from SGUL and passing scores on USMLE Step 1, Step 2 CK and Step 2 CS).

    3) It may still be possible for you to do this. I recommend that you reach out to UCAS to see if you're able to remove one of your universities and add on the SGUL program. The UCAS advising staff are the best resources for providing accurate information about your options for this.

    Best Regards,

    Shannon

Great, thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions!

I'll be contacting UCAS on Monday and hopefully they'll allow me to switch one of my options.

    Cheers
