20k US for a car down there? How much is to bring one down from the US? I'm applying this month for Fall 07 and am planning on either bringing or buying a car. I'll pay whatever is cheaper, either transport a car down or buy one there but that seems like a lot. I found a link to an auto dealer there - I guess I'll check in with them. This car is sweet but can you get a little run-around in good shape for like 10 grand?

By the way, this is my first post of I'm sure many. This forum has been a phenomenal source of info for me and I really appreciate the great and detailed info from everybody. Thanks all!

who said a car down there is $20,000 US? this guy is selling his for $18,500 EC so $6,928US. you can easily buy a car down there for about $3,000US. I know alot of people that rent a car for about $400US a month. You really don't need a car down there, the school buses go everywhere you need to go. But if you plan on getting a car then it might be a good idea to split the coast of rent with your roommates or buy and sell it at the end. The thing is what will happen when you can't sell it back and you have to leave the island?

Roger that. I thought EC was Euros but now I realize it is Eastern Carrib. $400 a month to rent is not bad either - that may be a good way to go.
