No ferry
As of right now, there is no ferry you can take from St. Maarten to Statia. I have heard that you can hire a private boat to take you to the island, but it is pretty expensive, unless you get like 20 people and split the costs. However, depending on the weather and ocean conditions, it could be a rough ride in the water. The only form of regular transportation to and from the island is on a Winair flight. However, Caribbean Sun is starting flights from San Juan, Puerto Rico to Statia, so if you haven't booked your ticket down yet, you may want to look into Caribbean Sun. It saves you a stop and money.

Hey, Congrats for coming to SESOM!!!
I just talked to a local friend who has 2 great condos for rent. $400 (includes furniture, water, internet, gas air conditioning, all you pay for is rent and electricity which can run you anywhere between $25-100 depending on use.) These are next to each other, in a good neighborhood, quiet and even our Embryology/Anatomy professor lives there so you can imagine he would want a safe and sound/quiet location. For more info you can email me and I can get you in touch with these people. (lapustean@hotmail.com) Good luck, Nic |
