Atlanta rotationz
i did rotationz in atlanta 6 monthz ago and imho the core rotationz at amc are not good at all. u are assigned an attendin to follow and the majority of them could care less if u were there or if you learn anythin. it is also ridiculous that they we have to pay extra on top of what our school is payin them. it is just a huge moneymaker for the gmc/pgy1md group, not even for amc. unless thingz have dramatically changed within the last 6 monthz, i would not recommend going there if u can move around. statia has a lot better rotationz, but theyre not all in the same location so movin around is a necessity.

if you have more questions pm me
My best rotations in Atlanta were electives. Neurology was fabulous and I learned so much, it was very helpful on my step 2ck exam. Attended noon conference daily and rounded every afternoon with residents. We worked with the residents most of the time and they would call the attending if a problem.
Family Practice for me was an excellent experience. Surgery was not what I wanted it to be the 4 wks with gen surg. was long hours and many gastric bypass surgeries holding a laproscopic light. Only a few Lap Chole's, colon resections, perforation of bowel, appendectomy, and some other things. Vasc. Surg. was excellent for me but I have a background in nursing and have worked in surgery in the past. I was pleased. Cardiovasc. Surg. was also an excellent rotation. I scrubbed in as a 1st assist on many cases. Learned alot about shock and CCU. Heart surg. and Thoracic cases mostly. For the most part the only other rotations I did were Electives. They were all good for me. Psych for me was through Emory and I learned more than I ever wanted to know about psych. Did quick review for step 2 ck and scored very high. My IM, OBGYN, Cardiology, and Gyn infert. were all done in Florida and were all very good. |

AMC
Surgery at AMC was not that good for the IMG students and the PD did not even acknowledge most of the students coming from the PGY group.
Dr. Sherman made a visit to the hospital and there were suppose to be some improvements made with the AMC rotations. The surgical residents for the most part were not friendly to the IMG students. The students from the Medical College of Georgia were invited to morning rounds and treated as part of the team. We do have a student from Statia who is a PGY1 Prelim. at AMC surgery but I am not sure if he will be offered a 2nd year spot because the surgery dept is not IMG friendly. Personally I did not find many opportunities for matching at AMC but agree that it does look good on your transcripts. AMC is a community program and some prefer these smaller programs. The Infect. Disease rotation is also an excellent rotation and one I would recommend. The electives in general are all very good at AMC. On one rotation I also went to Crawford Long and loved it compared to AMC. |

Are there any statia grads doing residency in florida?
