re
i mean that we need to be realistic in what we want from a med school, and whether the school can get us there. simply being able to sit for the usmle and get an ecfmg certificat doesn't mean squat. IUHS can get you that much...
my main point is that st chris has made claims about state licensing that cannot possibly be verified. us students that study outside the big 3 and australia/ireland/isreal likely have to compromise something. whether that be time spent abroad (as is my case), lack of history, unceertainty about state practices/licensing, or whatever else will depend on the school. i simply advocate being aware that a compromise must be made, at least in the current status of these schools... i disagree that these things should not be posted. anyone with information should post it. if it is inaccurate, then prove it. if you merely don't like to read what is being said, or if it worries you, or whatever...well, that is up to you to decide what to do with it. best of luck! |

Step 1 scores

Just curious, What was the highest score achieved thus far by St. Chris students? I heard that the highest score achieved by any student (including US students) came from a Ross student. I think it was 269. |

Neilc,
I too advocate people being aware that there are compromises to be made. I have never stated that St. Chris is the best Med school that there is, but I have stated that they do provide a solid foundation in pre-clinical knowledge. As far a state licensure is concerned, one could write a book with all the rules and regulations for each state, as they all vary in their requirements. The AMA can provide you with a current CD or hard copy of all the state requirements and I strongly suggest that everyone get a copy. It is available on their site. We do have to sacrifice a lot to study outside the US, but this I believe reflects the dedication that we all have. I commend you for having to be in Czech. for so long. I lived in Russia for several years and if it is at all similar then my hat is off to you. I don't agree however that the ability to sit the USMLE and get ECFMG certification means "squat" as you stated. It is just another one of the hurdles that we must jump to become physicians. Is it the "end all" to everything? No, but it is a vital component. There are some schools who do not have a charter and won't be able to get ECFMG cert. So, yes again I agree the buyer should beware. Again everyone needs to just maintain a level head in these things. We are all striving to be professionals, so lets start now. Regards, jdmd73 |

Unfortunately I have to agree.
Unfortunately I have to agree with some of what is said bt NEILC, the intense deisre to help others and become a physician drives many students to take serious risk. I can appreciated and support the passing on pertinent information.
The information has to be put out there but coming from people who have no want/need or desire to become doctors sitting behind a computer writing about schools they have never attended isn't the answer. Do I know what the answer is? NO, but already being burned once by a school I realize that for me to make blanket statements about all foreign medical schools does no one any good and may do harm to some truly talented foreign medical students attending these schools. |

Samara,
I based my comment that most are above 200 on what I have heard from the students who have taken step 1. St. Chris is a very tight knit student body and everyone is glad to hear from those who have passed. As you can imagine news travels fast. With that said, also bear in mind that not everyone reports their score back to their freinds, especially if they had done worse that expected. I did personally see an actual score of a student at St. Chris who had a 244. Anyway my point was that we are getting a solid pre-clinical education. jdmd73 |

Could you please verify then if the 2 campuses have a central top management? I did take a look of SC's website which mention having 2 campuses, but nowhere can I verify management part. Normally, one wouldn't ask such question, but since this is a heated debate, an answer with this at least will clear up if Luton can be considered as a branch campus of the Senegal campus. |
