Back to business. Labs and clinicals

When and where will the labs be re-instituted. Also, is the anatomy lab hands-on? Or do we just observe?

About clinicals... This is a matter that means much to me. Are there clinicals specifically in Northern New Jersey? And, when I apply and speak to the administration will I be told specifically where the clinicals are?

    Thanks

I have spoken with admin today regarding labs and all so I can tell you.

    Histology:

The hospital is still happening and students will go in groups of 6 for the rest of the term. Each group only goes once, as has been mentioned before. To be honest, the hospital bit in the first term is stupid, but students really wanted it so the admin is still doing it. The microscopes have already been paid for and are just waiting to be delievered. Once they are, a dry lab will be set up and histo lab will commence. This is expected any day now. This is england though, everything takes freaking forever.

    Micro:

Micro will also use the dry lab to look at prepared slides however they will also have a hospital component at. This component will be larger than the histo one and will include lessons in gram/acid fast staining, tissue prep, agar preps, etc.

    Clinicals:

I do not know if all the clinicals have been set up in new jersey yet. The house and senate have passed our apporoval and the govenor has signed off on it so it should be done. You are not likely to get an answer on any specific hospital unless you talk with Dr. *****. No one else will violate the rules to tell you. I suggest you get a hold of him. He is also quite willing to try and get another hospital for you if what you want to do there is ACGME accreditted.

    New Jersey

The reason I asked about North Jersey was that on Sept 16 you said that New Jersey was approved.

    You said:

Well, its finally official. We are now fully approved in NJ for clinicals, residency, and licensure. Dr. ***** has set up clinicals there and has everything ready to go. I do not know when he will begin placing students there, but be sure that it will be very soon.

    Congrats to St. Chris!!!!!!!!!!

    right

Right, the state approved SC. However, that doesn't necessarily mean that all the clins are ready for students nor if they have any in north jersey. I just don't know, I have quit asking questions about jersey so I am no longer in the loop. Dr. ***** is the dean of the Clinical sciences and he would be the one to tell you what all is happening in Jersey.

    Thanks

I'll reach out to him and see if I can get some information. Where I can do my clinicals is important as to the schools I apply to. Do you have his e-mail address?

    Thanks

Thanks Cindy. Perhaps when you get over there you could let me know what you think. You're going in January, right? I'm just waiting for this semester's grades and then I'm going to send out applications for September.

    Thanks, Mike

    Wet labs

Dry labs are sufficient. Probably more efficient in terms of learning than wet labs. You don't need to know how to do a gram's stain on the boards. You really don't need to do one in practice, unless you are a pathologist. Much better system. G
