A word of warning if you are "springboard minded"

St. Chris is not a spring board for you to come to for one year and then attempt to transfer to some Stateside school because as one person told me today "I really want to be a US grad". Its my understanding that once you matriculate to any medical university and you do not claim it...you are considered a fraud and wil never be able to practice medicine. So if you go anywhere, you need to know the law before you come to "check out if medical school is right for you". If you don't know...do a Masters and then find out. Several Biomedical science programs exist across the country which will let you "play doctor" without committing to a medical school.

That is all fine and well, but there are several considerations to be taken into account. If you want to be a US grad, ...stay in the US. Do not come here. You will regret it since all you will do is pine for the US. You'll make your classmates miserable and you'll be unhappy. Study for the MCAT and shoot for the magic 30 marker and all will be well.

If you plan on transferring, consider that a spot has to be open in the area you want to go to in order for you to transfer, even if its only clinicals. If someone fails the USMLE at school X then you might be able to grab it...unless another US student wants to transfer to be closer to Aunt Milly who is dying of cancer. Then you are SOL.

Only 2% are able to transfer in the US and most of that is from US students. So do the math. Chances are, you go anywhere...that is where you graduate from as an MD/DO. Oh yeah, forget about DO schools...you'll have to repeat ALL of the course work and be even deeper in debt IF they even consider you. To date, no DO school has ever allowed an MD student to transfer that I have ever heard of.

So if you think you'll just come to St. Chris or any other school not tagged with AAMC's blessing, forget it. Chances are, it won't happen.

Those of you who do come here...come to make the place stronger and better so that others can reap your work and continue on to make the school stronger.

If I have made anyone mad...sorry. If I enlighted you...great. If you have no clue as to why I am writing this...uh, ...hmmm....perhaps a beer would help.

futr you make a lot of great points in your post. I got nauseous hearing people say they will go to so and so school in the US after a semster of some offshore med school. If it was that easy everyone would be doing it. I am glad you posted this, it will definetly open the eyes of people who really think they can just swoop back to the US after a year at St. Chris.
But what I do not get is...
If you want a US school, why not stay in the US? And if you are coming to a foreign school, 99.9999999999% is because the US schools rejected them..some ppl are
btw futr...how are your rug rats adjusting? 8)
