CAN SOMEBODY ANSWER MY QUESTIONs? IMPORTANT ST. CHRIS INFO.

i am considering to apply to st. Chris, but before that i have several questions and doubts. If some one can answer these questions it will be a big help. Okay..I called the admissions office and asked for information about the faculty members,,,such as how many permanent faculty members are there etc...? What are their credentials? Are they fulltime or parttime and No body was able to answer that question. Who is the Dean of the medical school? How is incharge of basic sciences and clinical sciences? Basically i was told that Dr. ***** was incharge of everything. Well I know this that just one person can not run all the departments? This may sound sarcastic but i would like to know the answers? Also Since the school is chartered in Senegal, are there any physical facilities in Senegal? If so where are they located and what do they offer? I mean it could me one rented room somewhere? Since St. chris do not offer any classes in Senegal (all basic sciences are done in Engliand), what are the chances that the Senegalese government will decharter the school? I know that it has been claimed that the school is involved in humanitarian projects, can some one tell me more specifically what these projects are? Also what type of funding is the UN providing? If St. Chris is acting as an NGO in Senegal under what Business name are they operating since I was not able to locate info on that through the office of UN development Council on Africa or the UNDP or UNICEF or UNHCR? I would be very interested in getting this info.

In one of the e-mails it was mentioned that there is a Board of Mangement? Is there any information on that? Except that Dr. ***** is the owner. Also I believe that on this bulletin board some one has posted that the mangement is comprised of Senegalese and US Physcians, I would like to get the information about these individuals? Which the school did'nt have when I called the office. Many schools in the carribean such as American and Ross have posted such info on their website. All Colleges and Universities in the United States post such information on their websites and this information is readily available.

I have few other questions about licensure. But i will leave those for later. I do not mean to be blunt or sarcastic, but I would like to know the answers to these questions before I make a decision.

I will greatly appreciate if any one has credible and specific answers.

Ok, there are around 15 or so proffessors and most of them are permanent.

The Dean of Basic sciences is Dr. Jay Mohite MBBS
The Dean of Clinical Sciences is Dr. **** ***** MD
The Associate Dean of Basic sciences is Dr. **** Cherian MD

In each affiliate hospital, the PD's are hired on as St. Chris faculty to oversee, grade, and communicate with the rotating st chris clinical student.

I was informed yesterday in my meeting with Dr. ***** that we have a full medical school in Senegal for african students. The teaching is all done in french and the senegalese govt pays for its citizens to attend school (not just st chris, but all schools). In senegal there is also general schools that teach english, math , etc. In addition there is a free clinic attached to the school. However, I suggest getting in contact with Dr. ***** and ask about this because he told us of many cool advancements going on in Senegal including a $40 million grant plus land to build a large state of the art medical school and hospital in senegal. I don't know all the details, but he can tell you more, however it doesn't sound like our charter will be removed any time soon.

The WHO has been providing funds for quite a while for the classes and free health care that st chris gives in dakar. However, contact dr. ***** for the full details on what organizations have given what, etc etc. However, I don't really see the correlation between WHO funding for humanitarian aid in senegal and the quality fo the medical education in the england campus.

Sorry, don't have any info on them. They are the men/women behind the scenes. That is the board of trustees or whatever it is called.

No, actually they don't. There is no carrib school that posts who their board of trustees includes. They may post the proffs names and qualifications, they may post who the president and deans are... but the boards that control everything behind the scenes are NOT usually posted. The people on that board are not here in luton... it is not a local board. There are promotions commitees and curriculum commitees, etc that are here in luton... .this board controls the financial goals of the school. They are not paid so they have no conflicts of interest. I doubt any one of us will be made privy to their identifying data.

You are free to ask any question you want. I am sure all of us on this forum will try to answer you to the best of our knowledge. Please look through the entire st chris section on the forum because a lot of licensure questions have already been answered. If you still have questions, don't heistate to ask.

However, I do want to say that I hope you realize that you are asking students these questions. What that means is that what we say may at times be inaccurate or may not contain all of the facts. The best people to ask for the most accurate and detailed info is the admin. I don't know who you spoke to in NJ, but if you speak to dr ***** or any of the heirarchy here in luton, you would probably have gotten much better answers to your questions. Try calling luton next week and speak to the managing director here named Mr. **** 011 44 1582 400 466. He will be able to answer almost any question that you could possibly ask. He is very blunt, like yourself, and I think that you will appreciate his directness.

Good luck in your searching,

Dr. Mohite is a nuerosurgeon from India and has been teaching for many many years.

Dr. Cherian is a physciatrist from chigago, has taught in several US schools and used to be the Dean at Ross Univ.

Dr. ***** keeps his personal information private. Since he doesn't teach anything, no one asks. However, that does lead people to create a lot of rumors.
My girlfriend made the mistake of calling him a buissnessman one night when he took us out for a beer. He prooved that he knew his stuff by humiliating us for 3 hours with non-stop oral quizing. It was all in good fun, I mean we were out drinking with him, so it was kind of like nerdy medical bravado. But still, we realized that day dr ***** knows his medicine.

That only states who the director of the board is, not who every member is. I have written in the past that Dr. ***** is chair of the board, but the rest of the members are usually not listed.

I was able yo het info on the rest of the board members. I hope that st. Chris can provide such info....

Ross University is pleased to announce that a majority interest in Ross University School of Medicine and Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine has been purchased by a group of investors who specialize in educational opportunities. Dr. Robert Ross-Chairman of Ross University-will now assume the position of Chairman Emeritus.

The University will be governed by a new Board of Directors, which will be chaired by Benno C. Schmidt, Jr. Mr. Schmidt previously served as President of Yale University (1986-1992), and as Dean of the Columbia University School of Law. Benno Schmidt also serves as Chairman of Edison Schools, which has made great strides in providing quality education programs to K-12 students throughout the country.

Another distinguished member of the new governing Board is William F. Weld, the former Governor of Massachusetts from 1991 to 1997, who also served as the Assistant U.S. Attorney General in charge of the Criminal Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. As a former Governor of the state of Massachusetts, William Weld has been a great supporter of higher education. He has maintained close relationships with institutions of higher education throughout the United States and, especially, in the state of Massachusetts.

Also serving on the Board is Thomas F. McLarty, III. Mr. McLarty served as President Clinton's Chief of Staff; as the Administration's Special Envoy for the Americas; and as a member of the National Economic Council. Mr. McLarty has, throughout his career, been a staunch supporter of higher education and professional schools.

The Board has affirmed its commitment to continue to improve the Ross University medical and veterinary medical education programs, including increasing the number of clinical training sites for Ross students to participate in clinical training throughout the United States, and to continue to strive for excellence in all aspects of the Ross University School of Medicine and School of Veterinary Medicine's educational program.

The University believes that the additional support it will receive from the investors, and the members of the new Board of Directors, can only result in continued expansion of the campus facilities, and enhancement of the educational opportunities for Ross University students.

I am very pleased that Ross provides such detailed information on their website. I personally don't know who is on the board (to be truthful, i don't really care too much ). The person who can tell you that if he chooses is Dr. *****. I suggest contacting him.
