How to Join AMSA and Student Govt?

How do we join AMSA? (i think that's how it is abbreviated). Bts, any advice on how to join and details about this organization.
Also, is there a Student Advisory Committee or Student Government that recommends/represents any requests or concerns or advancements that are sought by the students of St. Chris to the Administration? (Basically a committee of student reps that advises the Administration on what needs to be done with St. Chris). I would love details about both organizations.

To join AMSA go to www.amsa.org and either sign up online or call the 800 number and sign up over the phone. Make sure and tell them you go to St. Chris so they put you on the right account.

As far as Student government (SGA), we have a very developed one. There is a clas rep in each class that reports to a central government consisting of a pre, VP, Secretary, and treasurer. The central govt reports to the admin. All officers of SGA, class reps, and officers of AMSA have periodic meetings with the admin including ***** to discuss problems and find solutions. In fact, we had one last night that lasted around 4 hours.

Student support widespread and it is easy to have a complaint addressed if there is one. OH, I forgot... one thing that was discussed last night that wil further assist in resolving problems. We have agreed that in the beggining of the term each class will have a short meeting with the managing director of the school every 2 weeks, then after the midway point they will decrease to once a month.

There is also a Deans meeting after every exam so that students can air their concerns with exams or raise any issues that have surfaced. This is nothing new however, we have been doing this for quite some time.

Don't worry IDream, I'll save you a seat on the SGA committee.

To join AMSA go to www.amsa.org and either sign up online or call the 800 number and sign up over the phone. Make sure and tell them you go to St. Chris so they put you on the right account.

I downloaded their form and sent it in by mail before I arrived to St Chris.
You should get a card with a number on it. You'll need to register the number with the AMSA president.

I am also interested, and will be in contact come January,

    Hello all!!

I have been doing my homework and I love the program offered at St. Chris, I am currently involved in a number of extracurricular activities at St. Xavier University Chicago, and I also hope to do the same at St. Chris, so come January, I would also like to be an active member in any academic organizations that students may be involved in or are interested in starting.

Any Extra experiences and extra workload on top of med school should be impressive in and of itself. Having extra things on your resume might make you stand out more if your application is being considered against someone else who doesn't have those experiences. I only mean if you get involved in the official capacities of AMSA. If you are just a member, the major benefit is the discounts and health insurance. You will need the health insurance when it comes time for clinicals.
