Thread: 6 year MD program.

Okay, so I have the option to goto medical school in India. I'm freaked out about that though . The whole change and what not. Speaking of which, I'm in the United States, and I'm indian (go figure, we all want to be doctors). Anyhow, a colleague of my dad, his son went to the 6 year MD program, and is now attending residency, but I don't know where. So, I've been reading all these forums, and it boggles me to see how the students of these forums ATTACK on another because of the school which they attend. It's hard to tell whats fact and whats false. I would really appreciate honest answers .
I currently and a junior in high school, in the United States (New Jersey). I have a 2.4 GPA and a 1200 SAT. I am an EMT, and an active member of the American Red Cross. I have many more extra-curricular activities (I'm sure you got the idea). I really want to get into this school, it seems to be a decent. What do you think my chances would be? Also, I won't be taking financial aid, fyi incase that effects admission decisions. I know most people would tell me to goto undergrad here and then goto med school, but my parents want me to do this so they have the satisfaction of knowing I have provisional acceptance into med school.
Another thing that I'd like to know is how many people participate in NRMP each year, and approximately how many actually match? Thanks to all for your input!

I am applying in University of Debrecen for MD course this year. Can anyone tell me what is taught from September to December and January to May. I saw the course list for 1st year from their website http://www.ud-mhsc.org/

Also, please let me know which is the toughest subject in 1st year.

ahhh...st chris students...so predictable. post real issues, they resort to name calling. a true sign of academic integrity and honesty. i guess i would be bitter and defensive as well, if i had to deal with the potential of having a worthless degree and the fact that no matter what you do you will be limited in where you can practice. have fun with the leftovers, ****! good luck trying to trick others into your mistakes..

Unfortunately, not many of us on this forum know very much about debrecen. You may get better information if you ask on the European Forum. I hope you get all the info you need and if you have any questions about st chris, feel free to email me. Good luck.

email the medical board in NJ directly. there was some conflict on the wording of NJ law. since SC is chartered in Senegal, Africa the wording may prevent gtrads from doing things there. Pen also has some weird laws so get it direcftly from them ask specifically how they count clinical weeks.

It would be SO much easier to stay in the states you have no idea. Carib schools have their own issues such as cost. reputation etc. then the newer schools are 'new' and you don't know were you can work....theoretically it shoudl be 40-45 states but you don't know until its done. the fsmb is also looking at possibly setting guidelines for foreign schools which may affect new schools that are have no outside accreditation like SC or all including the "big" carib schools, nobody knows.

you are still young and your parents still control much of yout life so if they will pay try the irish/australian/israeli schools and eastern europe 6 year programs before carib school pre meds and SC style programs.....all these should be a safety net in case you don't get in the states...

you also have to realize that all of us are financing our education so it may seem your parents have ultimate control but it only seems that way b/c you haven't gone out yet....on that note, are you sure you wanna miss the college experience?

What's with the influx of kids who want to go to foreign schools right out of high school? Or is it just more of them have found out about valuemd?
