1980s band return to launch Berlin route

Former chart toppers Berlin, best known for the power ballad Take My Breath Away, were at Luton airport on Wednesday to help launch easyJet's new flights to Berlin in Germany.

The '80s chart-toppers who brought us the theme tune to Top Gun – the Tom Cruise movie about macho fighter pilots defending the skies from the enemies of America – sang their number-one hit to publicise the Luton-based low-price airline's newest service.

Fares to the German capital will start at £17.99 – £30.98 return – and the opening of its new base at Berlin Schoenefeld Airport represents easyJet's biggest ever airport launch.

*** Webster, easyJet's chief executive said: "We expect to carry 1.5 million passengers in the first 12 months, and in the next few years we intend to expand significantly to become Berlin's number one low-cost airline."
