SCIMD website will be down

I just wanted to post on here before AZ and the trolls go searching... and blow things out of proportion

the SCIMD website (http://www.stchrisimd.com) will be taken down after Dec 31st 2006.

Several new domains have already been applied for (.edu, .edu.sn etc.. ) we just didn't hear back in time and the .com expires Dec 31st 2006 and wont be renewed.

A new website is already under construction and should be ready and back up shortly (i don't know of a date or deadline so don't ask.. i was
just told it will hopefully be soon)

so to answer all the stupid questions and comments AZ and the trolls will ask and say before they do

no the school isn't closed...

no they didn't go out of buisness...

no they didn't run out of money and could afford to pay for the .com

no the senegalese didn't walk away...

did i miss any? AZ and the trolls please do ask so i can say no to those qu
estions also...

Maybe

That was probably one of the factors that made St. Chris decide not to renew the .com account. When I buy .coms. I purchase the .net and .org addresses too. They didn't have that option with the .com address they chose. The .org was already taken by someone else.

Student Council of India

This site's copyright is from 2005 so these folks purchased the .org a year before St. Chris had any idea they'd need a new web address.

It's never a good idea to simply let an address go...in fact I have NEVER heard of a business simply giving up on a name like this.

If there is going to be a swich, because of the need to use the .com .net and .org (and I am guessing .edu) addresses, then you sould keep the old domain, and use a redirect to the new site.

This way, you will not loose anyone who has bookmarked or linked to the old site.

Definitely, you should renew the domain for the (http://www.stchrisimd.com) account.

Well if you want to know the whole story...

that particular web domain was bought by a former student at SCIMD who now attends ROSS, this student along with several others (including myself) help to build the website for the school during the transition period for free to keep costs for the school as low as possible...

This particular student initially said he would simply give the site and domain to the school free of charge after the first year of operation was up (with a few catches)... well thats not what he ended up trying to do... from what i was told he wanted to maintain control of the website etc... the school wanted full control.... he couldn't update things the way the school wanted to and fast enough etc.. etc...

The school wanted an in house computer tech person to deal with new student e-mails, and tech problems, and website maintanence etc... obviously this student couldn't do it since he was in clinicals with ross...

So this student sent out a message saying that the school didn't want to continue the website as he wanted it to be continued.. and he was going to take it down... (he's very very much a control freak)...

anyway.. bottom line.. this student is taking down the website Dec 31st... and the school hired another company to build a new site.. i'm not sure if they have someone yet for the in house stuff (because i'm not in luton)...

sorry Azrealist

you shouldn't have to share all your school's private business matters with everyone. Most companies aren't under this kind of microscopic skepticism. I know the last version of the stchris.edu site was done by a company in Naples. The old admin sunk quite a bit of the student's money into it and then wouldn't turn it back over to the school. I know the students did what they could to come up with a new one at a moments notice. I'm sure the next one will be awesome! Hang in there.

This has happened before, and I believe the company/oranization that uses the name usually wins out over an individual who is trying to hold a company hostage.

ICann (I believe) regulates disputes. In the end, I think the school would have a strong case to take ownership of the domain name.

Even if the student does take down the site, you should check with ICANN | ICANN Information to see if possession of the name can be retained by the school.

they probably

just want to be done with the guy...they've been through so much. People get tired of fighting after a while and just want to focus forward. The new website hasn't been up that long. Once they get their new domain name sorted out -- it won't take them long to get the new site address out there.
