    Question for Current Students

    Hello,

I would appreciate a list of things I will need for my 20-months there in Luton. I am most interested in school supplies such as scrubs, dissection kits, microscope, stethoscope, etc... These types of items as well as anything you wish you would have brought with you will help a lot of us greatly.

    Thanks,
    Leroy

    Thanks,
Bring a white coat for labs.

Scrubs and dissection kits are not needed. All equipment for the anatomy lab is provided by King's College. Lab coats are provided by King's and are used for dissection. Scrubs are rarely used by students at King's.

Microscopes will be provided at the University of Luton. You'll be issued a slide box.

Stethoscopes and scrubs will probably be needed for 5th semester students for ICM (Introduction to Clinical Medicine). You'll do rounds in a UK hospital. I'm not sure what you need for 4th or 5th semester since I'm only a 3rd semester student.

You can also buy supplies in London so there's no need to haul everything over here.

Over the break, bts and I will work together on a FAQ to help new students. So stay tuned.

    What to bring

    Dear Leroy,

To follow up on what mtt said, the most expensive things you will need are for 4th and 5th semester.

    1. Stethoscope (absolutely essential)
    2. Opthalmascope and otoscope set
    3. Reflex hammer
    3. pen light
    4. if you want a blood pressure cuff (sphygmomanometer, try to say that three time fast...lol) you can buy one, but it is not essential.
    5. Other fun things like tongue depressors, blah, blah, if you want them.

In 4th semester you will be practicing Physical Diagnosis(PD) on real patients at local doctors offices so you must be able to perform and that includes having the proper tools to make the diagnosis.

In 5th semester, you will be practing more PD on patients as well as further clinical medicine at a London hospital and for that the same equipment is needed. In addition to all the medical equipment, make sure you have nice dress clothes and dress/casual clothes that you can wear to the hospital, doctor's offices, and white coat ceremonies. Our administartion INSISTS that all students present themselves very properly when representing St. Christopher's in these venues.

    Hope this helps ,
