    Few Questions about Spartan

Hi, I am looking at attending a med school in the carribean, not due to lack of marks but more for the chance of living in the carribean for three years. Either way, I just had a few questions about two of the med schools, Spartan and IAU.

With Spartan, what are the chances of being matched for residency in Canada or the States?

Also, which has a more "prestigous" campus?

What is the attrition rate for Spartan and IAU?

Does Spartan have a viable internet, meaning it doesn't constantly fail?

And how much did it cost, if any previous grads are here, for the 4 years you attended Spartan?

Any help and any other information you think I may be advantaged in knowing, would be much appreciated.

    Thank you,
    Regards

I'm sorry but if you really have the marks to get into a US medical school DO IT!!!! You would be doing more than a huge disservice, you would be making an unforgivable mistake! It is harder to match from Caribbean, especially if you don't go to one of the Big 4 (it is still done every year but def harder). Also there are no federal loans (if you're American). Lastly if you go to Spartan or IAU there will be a handful of states in the US you are ineligible for licensure. Look we all went the Caribbean route for a reason, if it's not marks or any other red flags that preclude you from an American or Canadian medical school.....GO and don't think twice. Sorry but living in the Caribbean is no reason to jeopardize your future and $200k.

    Thanks medic for your response.

My first choice will definetly be a medical school in Canada, being from Ontario myself. I am more looking for options as my Plan B. What are the big 4 that you have mentioned, and are the grade requirements on par with stateside med schools?

Also, what is the percentile of students from Spartan that get matched in the States or Canada?

    Thank you for your advice.

They are Ross, AUC, SABA, and St. george
either way, I recommend you do a research about all the caribbean schools to find out which one is right for you. Keep in mind the big 4 is not for everyone, but it is still highly recommended

I did my research and Spartan university has the most greenbooks... meaning the most license in almost all the states. They have 5 places you can go to do your rotations, 3 in chicago, 1 in miami and 1 in baltimore. IAU is basically the same everything as Spartan but IAU just started recently so its still new, IAU and Spartan share very very similar curriculum. If you prefer a new school go for IAU if you prefer more experienced school go for Spartan. I am currently at SJSM but Im planning to transfer to Spartan for September.

Spartan has many grads. licensed and practicing in the US. I know of one in Tx. who is Board certified in Family Practice. He reciprocated from a neighboring state after doing residency at the state university there. Of course, you want to go to the best school you can and also can afford. One of the considerations should be debt-load. How much will you owe after finishing and how long will it take you to repay any loans you have used? Borrowing a lot of money to be a FP Dr. will have a sustantial affetct on quality of life. Not to say that would not be worth it for some, but the more options you look at the better you can know if you are making the best choice. I have visited Spartan twice. The last time @ 2006, they still had a minimal library and facility. This is why Ca. disapproved them years ago and also why the previous owner didn't attempt to gain approval afterwards. Nowadays, you can access many publications online and even share lectures with other schools. The so-called "Approved" schools are 2-3X the cost and will not guarantee your success as a student or graduate. The schools' reputation is not reflective entirely in Board scores although potential top scorers may have decided on other schools. Pass means pass, getting you to the next step in the process. Any foreign grad. will encounter some stigma, so how much are you willing to spend to try and offset that?
