spartan USMLE step1 passing rate

there are some contradictory information about spartan USMLE step1 passing rate:
university just mentioned one year , 2006 passing rate which is 72% ==> it is not the best but I can live with that
in the book written by "A**** ****a": author has point out the passing rate is 20% which is really scare me and it make studying in spartan very risky!!

I am not saying that university misleading people and I can trust the official website of A university somehow, but why they do not clarify the issue and disclose result of their couple year USMLE passing rate? maybe somebody say if they had good passing rate they would put it online but they did not so far...
if any one know where we can access the passing rates of these universities please let everybody know

sorry you can not see the author name in the previous post
the book that I mentioned is
"Caribbean school of medicine journey and a guide",
you can even find it in Google book, just search for the name of the book in Google book and you can find it at page 65

I do not know where the author got her statistics from. I can tell you that my friends received the following grades (+/- 1 or 2 since I spoke to them awhile ago)... 99, 99, 82, and three more in the 90's (all first time takes). I can not speak for those stats and what trimester or year(s) they were taken from. But I can say that the new management has created an environment where if someone fails it really cannot be the university's fault, the students are being provided every opportunity to be well prepared. Look to the other thread where I responded to you discussing this and how much effort the management has put into preparing students - The prep is performed by USMLE experts who are/have been involved in major USMLE prep materials. If you are near Toronto you may want to attend the open house session (LINK).

Nobody I speak with failed, however I am sure that there have been students who failed, every school has students who have failed... every single medical school that exists has had students failed. The school definitely prepares students ... if anyone failed it is their own doing, at least in my opinion.

thanks for sharing your friends result, but while every school has pass and fail the total of them make rate that help student to make decision. all the purpose of the statistic is to have better estimate and to make better decision.
school usually publish their rate online to show their performance. all the systems run to achieve a goal and for medical school is step1 passing rate and getting to clinical rotation. and for clinical rotation is getting to residency.
regard spartan i did not find the step1 passing rate in their website(there is just for one year). i don't know why they did not put it online because it is important factor that can help them get better and more student. and not having them on their website make their passing rate questionable

and also for residency they just put a bulk list of names in a document without showing the year that they get in to residency and some percentage or something that show the rate between the number of failed and passed people that pass that steps...
so these are the questions that any student that wanna register can have as I do.
for example as good information check saba university website to see all the information by year and rate. that make it easy to see the performance of the school,,,

I don't know what to tell you - You should call the school and ask these questions if you are actually looking for answers. The school does list residents, practicing physicians, teaching physicians (as you mentioned) but those lists are, as far as I know, not allowed to be published without the permission of the alumni. The alumni provides their information and gives permission for it to be made public (ie. on the website). The hospitals are listed where they did their residency and the hospital where they completed their fellowship is shown (if they did one). That may provide some insight into why the website does not list all the students or years etc.... I cannot really answer your questions for you. But as I said, you should give them a call and try to get a better understanding of the school and what it offers. Hope this helped...

I actually find a document that show the countries by their passing usmle rate. among all Caribbean St Lucia by far has the lowest passing rate... it maybe fixed by a new manager and stuff but who knows it may not,,
should i risk and go to spartan because it has new york approval. while some other Caribbean universities with lower tuition have better passing rate....

if i go to spartan i have high chance that i will screw up for step 1 and i even can not get in to clinical so new york approval will not gonna work for me
but if i go to others universities( for example windsor or saint james) with better passing rate then i have better chance to pass usmle then there are many other states that i can try for rotation and residancy.....
what your folks think??? I like spartan because of ny approval , but there are many cons that i am worry about...

I have seen that before - in fact I believe within this forum. I don't know what to say other than there is more than one school in St. Lucia (4 at the time of that). So the passing rate takes their schools into consideration as well. That said - no matter what school you go to it is up to you to be prepared. SHSU offers you everything you need to succeed and had made so many improvements over the last few years. The new management, as I have stated, has made so many additions for USMLE prep alone.

That said - you have to go where you feel comfortable and remember at the end of the day to make sure you are comfortable with the school you chose and to study study study. A school could give you every opportunity but it will mean nothing unless you make use of the opportunities provided. I could tell you again how much SHSU offers regarding the USMLE but I suggest you call them directly and ask your questions or share your concerns and see how they have addressed them (or will if they have not). Best of luck to you.

I went to spartan, and I know a lot of people that passed step one on their first shot. I also know people that has to take it a couple of times. That being said, I know just as many people that went to other caribbean schools and they had take step one a couple of times. The bottom line is that you have to put the effort in to pass the boards, don't rely on statistics, they can be misleading.
I also know about the guy that wrote that book you were quoting. He didn't even finish residency because he was kicked out. I guess he is writing books based on what everyone already knows, as well as outdated information to earn a living.
