Start Psych tomorrow. So far the schedule only showed 5-6 SMU students on board for this rotation at the site. Heard from friends that the surrounding area is worse than Bushwick!! Haven't been to Far Rockaway in years! Will post my experiences as I move along. I hear I'm on call already this Thursday!

I went there yesterday to get a preview of the hospital. The walk from the train stop to the hospital (4 blocks) during a Saturday afternoon was no joke at all. It's a very tough neighborhood, but the hospital seemed decent from what I saw.

parking

Is there a secured parking lot for students and staff?

Is it on the A line?

Yes and Yes...Parking is free. For those heading off to this rotations ask for inpatient or outpatient. Don't get stuck in the ER psych.

For the Psych core rotation at SJEH, you are put either in Outpatient, Detox, Inpatient, Psych ER, or SP4 (Geriatric Unit). I don't think Psych ER is too bad.
