can I do all my rotations in New York

    Advertisements

I got engaged a couple months ago and my fiance will be doing his residency in New York. I was wondering is it possible for SMU students to do all their clinical rotations in New York? Basically spend the last two years of med school in the big apple

It is possible but not probable. Especially in getting ALL your cores/selectives/electives done within 2 years. There are ALWAYS delays. Plan on at least 24 months if you ONLY wish to be in NYC. My son did 85% of all his 3rd and 4th year in Chicago, only 2 rotations elsewhere - surgery core (3 months) in Mass and ER elective (4 weeks) in NYC. His time frame was May - May - Feb. or 20 months.
    Hope that helps.

I was able to do all my cores and electives in NY. Take step 1 on time, apply to the programs your interested in early, and stay on top of the school administration.

    Good luck!

what is the best time to take the step 1 so that you can apply early for rotations?

    NY Rotations

Did my cores at the hospitals I was designated too in NY. All were back to back.

Electives were done in : Maimonides, Mt Sinai, Beth Israel, and Wyckoff Heights

I took step 1 hmm...about 5 yrs ago- about 1 month after the completion of 5th semester.

Currently, finishing up Internal Medicine residency- then off to Felllowship!

    Good Luck

Do you know if all of your cores were greenbook? Because I would like to be licensed in NY (and do all of my clinical years there as well) and not have to travel around the country if possible!!! Thanks!!!
