510 points Surgery at Mt. Sinai was an excellent rotation.
One of the finest, if not the finest rotation SMU has to offer.
4 weeks of General Surgery (Required)
2 week minimum - 4 week Maximum of Trauma Surgery
4-6 weeks of Surgical Electives (e.g. Urology, ENT, Ortho, Plastics, Neuro Surgery, CardioThoracic etc.)
You are on call every 3-4 days (28 hours) either for General Surgery or Trauma, depending on the Schedule the Surgical Intern sets up for you.
The amount of Trauma that you see here is amazing, especially in the summer. Just search google news for Mt. Sinai Chicago and you will see.
If you're interested in Surgery this is the place you want to go to, alot of hands on, alot of suturing. You might even get to see some Organ Harvesting for Transplants. Too many amazing surgeries for me to list that I personally assisted in. To give you a taste, Pericardial Window for Cardiac Tamponade, 5 hour surgery for patient who got shot multiple times, Craniectomy for a patient who survived a suicide attempt by jumping in front of a train, etc.
534 points was surgery at sinai set up through AIME?
