The first step would be to find conections you have with doctors and hospital administrators and go thru the "insider channel" so to speak....

If you dont have the above.... you can call the clinical coordinator of the hospital you wish to rotate at and set up a face to face meeting regarding settin up rotations.

You may or rmay not get to that point...

I will eventually work to set up more Core spots for SMU in New York City....
in Manhattan hopefully.... utilizing my connections first.....

Anyone else with more experience can add their 2 cents....

It's extremely difficult even with superb connections. I've found "close family friends" that would be "happy to help" will not return phone calls or emails when it comes time for them to put their money where their mouth is.

I thought the school had this policy where if you can set up your own rotations, then the only way the school will let you do that is if you can set it up for the rest of the school.

That policy is for core rotations. Electives you are on your own.

Exactly, but this is how the school started with St. Vincents in MA, Peds at Mt. Sinai Chicago, etc. A student set a core up for themselves and opened the door for other students and a long term contract.

See if you can rub some elbows and get the policy changed.

In my opinion if we can do residency in a given state... we should try our best to add Core spots in our hospitals of choice....

If we slump and dont do anything... you wouldnt know if you would have
    succeeded if you tried....
