Met a guy from Ross who was boasting how he was about to start this rotation because it was affiliated with the Cleavland Clinic. He made the place sound as though it were the Cleavland clinic.

Anyone know how much truth their is to his statements?

Hey, i am possibly thinking of doing a surgery/IM rotation there, but don't know any students who have done those two rotations there. Does anyone know anything about it. Is it a good rotation? Bc IM is the core of medicine, if you do all crappy rotations IM should not be one of them, i really want to learn it and have a good experience. So far i have had pretty good rotations, im doing all green book and these two are offered as green book. So if anyone has any personal experience, or heard of anything to share please post a reply and give me some insight. Thanks!

I have heard from a few students that the experience there is great. Good teaching, etc.

You can do both IM & Surg in Ohio, and I also believe Psych (in another city). You can do electives almost anywhere as long as the hospital takes you.

Internal Medicine Rotation at Huron Hospital

Cleveland Clinic's Huron Hospital is located on the Eastside near Forest Hill Park on the former estate of John Rockfeller. It's a 211 bed acute care Level II trauma center.

The Rapid (train) station is a mile away but nearby housing in Cleveland Heights starting at $400 a month is a short car ride away. The immediate area is depressed;however, many residents live in nearby apartments.

I hope the follow information helps:

1) This rotation and a surgery rotation are "green" and sponsored by Huron Hospital. Someone told me that you must have 85% on your Step 1 to get one of these rotations. Team assignments change each month.
2) Each team is made up of one attending, three residents and two medical students. Most students are from Ross or SMU.
3) No overnight calls. Done by 3 pm most days.
4) Grand round on Mondays. Frequent lectures on multi internal medicine subjects.
5) Had two weeks of ICU.
6) Had to give short presentations of patients. Worked admissions. Some scut work and little pimping.
7) No final exam.

In summary, I thought the rotation was very professional, hands-on and educational. Housing was plentiful, cheap and nearby.

(x) IM, Huron, Cleveland
(finish August 22) SURGERY, Huron, Cleveland
