bringing pets...
You are allowed to bring pets to Grenada, and Grenada does NOT have a quarantine time for animals. The school however does not currently have on campus housing for students with pets, so you would have to live off campus. The school will help assist you in this, and you will find that many of your fellow vet students also live off campus with their pets.
The most difficult part is arranging it through the airlines. The airline only allow so many pets on each flight, and also will not allow pets if the temperature is colder than 35 degrees or warmer than 85 degrees. Also, be careful about where you fly to. Do NOT fly through Barbados! Try to get a direct flight, or go through Puerto Rico. You will not have a problem that way. The school will give you the proper paperwork that you will need to get filled out by your veterinarian. In the rare case of emergencies like last year, the students with pets did have a difficult time getting off of the island with their pets, and ended up staying on the island longer than students without pets. Again, airlines will only allow a certain amount of pets on each plane, so with everyone leaving at the same time, that caused a major problem. If anyone wishes, give me a call and I will help you get in touch with some of our students who are currently there with pets.

I have to disagree with the airlines comment. If the dog is small (under a certain weight limit), it can be transported in the cabin in a proper carryon bag...so the temparature restrictions do not apply. Also, check with airlines as to which airlines allow carryon pets, not all of them do. Granada is not a problem to bring animals to, it's St. Vincent's that doeas not allow- they have a quarantine period. Sorry!

Hi! I am also a prospective student that will not go without my dog!! I would love to have on-campus housing during my first year so that I can be near school and meet people easier. Is there any way that they will allow a dog (she was previously a service animal)?
If not, how near are the other housing options - and are they in an area where a lot of SGU students live? Affordable? |
