How many application cycles before applying to SGU?

Hello, pre-vets and veterinary students!

I just recently got my rejection letter for the second year in a row to my state school. I am technically waitlisted but far enough down that it's highly unlikely I will be getting in this year.

I've really been kicking it around, trying to decide how many more years I want to waste applying to my state school without ever getting in. Not getting in has only made me more determined than ever to become a DVM and I've done a lot of research and I think SGU has a wonderful program! Obviously though there are a few things holding me back so far, like the higher tuition and loan interest rates, not being accredited, and having to live so far away from my friends and family.

Because I was able to get waitlisted this year, I'm thinking I might give it one more go here in the states, and simultaneously apply for SGU for 2009. Then again, I really REALLY want to get started on my degree!

Just curious how many VMCAS application cycles you current SGU students went through before applying to SGU (if any)? Or if you are still in pre-vet, how many times do you think you would apply to a US school before applying to SGU (if any)? Sorry this poll is worded a little confusing, hope it makes sense!

Voted...2 years of VMCAS for me. It is probably pretty obvious from my posts that I was mostly happy with SGU...so no regrets.

Many students are coming to SGU, getting good grades (I assume) and transferring mainly to Kansas State. From what I hear, they're taking quite a few. 2 in my class transferred to LSU, but this is more rare I think.

applying to vet school

Obviously students would prefer to stay in the U.S. and get into their in-state school to save on tuition fees and be closer to family, but unfortunately that does not work out for everyone, simply due to the lack of seats available.

I see many students apply over and over again to U.S. schools thinking it will save them money, but in the long run it is costing them more money by putting it off. Each extra year it takes a student to get into a vet school is a year off the total amount of years you will be practicing as a veterinarian. Two years of DVM income pretty much equals your complete tuition cost of vet school.

Just food for thought.
