New Vet Building

I have heard lots of the infamous rumors about what intended purpose is for the new vet building but no one is really sure. I think we need some classroom/lecture rooms in there along with a much needed library/study area for vet students.

Currently, there isn't a comfortable study lounge/library equipped with computers, texts, journal articles, etc. that we can utilize. It's perplexing to see so many modern buildings equipped with wifi and yet there are very few areas (or none at all) to study in. Other than the library, there needs to be a dedicated study/library area. I think this situation also prevails for the med students as they too don't have such a dedicated area.

With the new vet building soon to take center stage in the SGU vet program, it would be of great use to the student body and faculty to have a decent sized scholastic commune available for studying, researching, group meetings, and other important uses. I hope that someone has already thought of such a space because it would be a welcomed addition to our burgeoning DVM program.

Does anyone have a clue as to what the new vet building is supposed to accomplish?

For some reason, I thought pretty much everyone knew what was going in there. This is from one of the vet Deans (I can't remember which): more offices for faculty, 2 - 90 person capacity lecture halls (upstairs I think), and the lower portion will definitely have new teaching surgical suites. The lecture halls will be nice so we're not up in the {insert expletive here} founders annex anymore, and the surgical areas are really overdue since we're doing our 5th term surgeries in the anatomy lab (which sucks).

Funny you should mention a needed study area, which I agree, because I was looking at the building today and was thinking that one of the very upper areas looked kind of like the study areas in each dorm...you know...with the circular window. Maybe this will be a study area. I kind of doubt that it will have any library-type/research materials though.

Also, the building seems a little small for 2, 90 person lecture halls, but maybe they'll just cram us in there no matter what...thank goodness my class is small!

Do you know what building existed where the new vet building is being built?

Also, any idea on what they are building directly across from the vet building, next to the soccer field.

It would be nice to have professional looking sign that says SGU School of Veterinary Medicine in front of or on the new vet building. Every university in the world has signs in front of or on their buildings except SGU. It's the details that make things stand out!

Not that sign.... What I mean is to have a nice sign out in front of the new vet building that says "St. George's School of Veterinary Medicine".

I do like the sign out front, its VERY nice and I couldn't believe that they installed it after 30 yrs!

At least since I have been here, there was no other building at that site before the new building was started. Is that what you mean?

I don't know...I thought I read in the meddie forum that it was possibly an administrative building or something...not sure though.

I agree...it seems as if SGU is finally pouring some much needed money into the vet areas...hopefully they won't skimp on details.

There was a sign that says SGU School of Veterinary Medicine on the old vet building which was the original med school library. But Ivan messed it up and they took it down.

What was there before the new vet building? Our beautiful parking lot.

What is accross from it by Building Z? I heard a new Medical lecture hall, Rumor? They say it will seat 600-700 med students! could be rumor.

Good to have you aboard whicat! Thanks for the insights, I hope they put a very nice Veterinary School of Medicine right in front so you know exactly what the building is when you come past the guards.

I do know that the building on the mail room side of the roundabout will be a HUGE 500+ lecture hall (after all how would kaiser hospitals be staffed?). However, the building site I am curious about is the building site directly in front of the vet building. The building site is next to the soccer/football field. It is actually right down from the new SGU University sign. It looks like a small building will flank the entry driveway. I'll bust out my digi cam and take a pic, that way we'll all be on the same page.

A nice sign out front and a comfortable study space/library with computers inside (so we don't have to trek all the way across campus to use the library) the new vet lecture would make this dvm wannabe happy!
