Can we move the SGU Vet forum?

Mods,

After coming across this site by chance, I have practically learned EVERYTHING about SGU from the posts in the med school forum and not the vet forum. I understand that there are about 350 med students per class as compared to less than 100 for the dvm program, but I think more people would actually post if the SGU DVM forum was more visible.

With the veterinary schools listed at the bottom of the page, most people don't even bother to look there. I know that the med school forums are labeled as such, but I was wondering if there could be a creative solution that would place the vet forum in a more visible section of the forum. Any and all feedback/suggestions would be appreciated!

I would agree, but I doubt it will happen. SGU seems to recommend the forum on Yahoo for some reason.

Either way, only a handful of vet students post on either forum. While many aspects of Grenada and SGU are similar for both vet and med, we vet students are here about twice as long and can sometimes have very different feelings and experiences in Grenada.

Also, many vet students bring their pets with them which can be a very frustrating and stressful experience which many meddies haven't experienced.

I try to keep up here when I have something useful to offer.

They already HAVE moved the SGU vet forum. It used to be attached to the SGU forum and it got alot of posts. then they moved it here and no one can ever find it. That's why most just post on the med forum now.

Also, many of the med students have pets too sisyphus, I don't know why you'd say that only the vet students have that frustration. It hasn't even been frustrating until last term when the airllines suddenly changed their policies mid-semester and the school was less than helpful. "charter a plane" they said. hah.

charter a flight

Actually, the school DID look into chartering a flight for the students with pets (both med and vet) and had a sign-up sheet for students interested. Unfortunately there were not enough students interested to make the cost reasonable, and many students found a more affordable alternative way to bring their pets down.

will look at it. remember these sites are not run or moderated by sgu so perhaps there is more control for them in the yahoo clubs? I don't really know. will look into creative solutinos as you say for better visitation to the forum.

We've added a link in the SGU med school forum (look under subforum section) which will bring users directly to the SGU Vet forum. Thanks for the suggestion .

Thank you Doc!

I hope more people start posting and sharing experiences.

Now, if only we could ban all vet students that wear those unprofessional looking animal print scrub tops...

When was the last time you saw an MD wearing a freakin' cream colored animal print scrub top with matching cream colored bottoms? Sorry, just thinking with my fingers...

One more small request... Can you put the "Last Post" "Replies/Views", information next to the forum link? Sorry for the nitpick but vet med NEEDS more dialogue. Thank you.

I am aware that many meddies bring their pets. I don't have the statistics to back up my opinion, but I would gather that more vet students bring their pets than med students. I brought one down with me, luckily before the blackout periods, it still had some frustration involved for me and my wife. My statement wasn't meant to be that exclusive, and I don't believe it was.

I guess I would have hoped SGU would have been a little more active in helping the students with their pets and the airlines, but is that really their job? This isn't exactly the same situation as the post-Ivan events (admittedly, I wasn't here). We bring our pets down here by choice and must deal with the difficulties of their transport.

I know that the Deans office is working on this situation, but we can't force American Eagle to change their minds, and there are few alternatives to work with (Amerijet/plane charter).

Back on topic: Hopefully the extra links in the med school forum will help increase the traffic on our forum. Thanks Doc! I believe this is a great way to help disseminate information to potential/existing students as well as the normal goings-on in a forum. We just need more traffic from newbies and oldies.

SIGN UP AND POST, VET STUDENTS!
