Thread: When to take Step 2?

Hi Everyone,

I started SGU in January 2010 and am about to begin my first clinical rotation (Family Med at Brooklyn Hospital) in a few weeks. I am trying to make a plan going forward and would like to know when students usually take Step 2? I am thinking about getting the Kaplan videos for 12 months but want to make sure that I wait long enough to get them so that I am covered until Step 2.

you should probably take step2ck sometime in July 2013 that way you'll have your results by Sep 2013 which is when your ERAS application will go out. Step2CS takes about 3 or 4 month to get back so you should take it in June. This will give you the best chance to match where you want to. Your best chance of matching is if you have your application complete as soon as possible and apply on the first day i.e. Sep1st. Of course technically you don't need your step scores back until the rank order list is due which is in Feb but that will really hurt your chances of matching.
