Thread: Taking STEP 1 late April...Placement advice.

Hello, I had a question regarding STEP 1 and clinical placement. I feel I will be well prepared and ready to take the exam late April. I wanted some advice as to how the procedure works about placement since I will receive my score probably 3-4 weeks after taking the exam. I believe NY rotations start May 23rd, but is it true that NJ rotations start later? Possibly in June?...

I just wanted some advice from people who have taken their exam one month later than expected, and how their placement went. I do not want to be placed anywhere random, which I know is highly possible. But what would ideally happen.

NJ rotations usually start the first Monday in June.

I know someone who took their exam after the school's deadline, and they didn't end up getting a clinical center. Each of their core rotations has been at a different hospital, which has involved a lot of commuting between boroughs and cities.

Hey yeah I know someone in the same situation as well. But the majority I've spoken to, step 1 score is more important obviously than worrying about rotations. But I do know quiet a handful of those that did delay their exam a month (2 people delayed it even more than that!) and still got a pretty decent hospital of their choice. So I guess I will take my chances! One thing at a time. So yeah I was just wanting to hear about more experiences, if any.

I might have to postpone my exam as well due to some issues that came up. I was hoping to take it at the end of April as well. But I was wondering if I do need to take longer, could I just start rotations with the August class? We will be in the same match so it won't really affect anything.

Hey, yeah I found out all the information for all this kinda stuff! Yeah you can start rotations with the August class. But they will get placed first and whatever spots are left over/available they will offer them to you!
