Clinical Dates 2009

Hi I am nearly finished 1st year basic sciences. I plan on getting married next year between Step 1 and the start of clinical rotations.

This is where my problem lies - I have heard way too many conflicting reports on when we write the boards and when we begin clinical training. This information is vital for me as I need to plan the wedding.

From what I thought: I would write the USMLE approx 6-7 weeks after finishing in May 2009....so 1st week of July.

I'm not sure on when clinicals start...some ppl say beginning of August, mid august end of august...or even september.

Can someone please give me some concrete info?

Cheers

while they can change from year to year, look at the schedule for this year's fall start dates...those hospitals will have relatively the same dates next year. But as far as concrete info-even the school won't give you that until a few months before.

Getting married between step I and cllinicals will be tough if you are aug class (jan class will have more time)...probably mid to end of july will be free, but you would have to be able to plan AND study...difficult at best...

this is of course if you are at a clinical center...if you choose not to be at one, you can take bridge time in aug/sept to get married and then start at a non-clinical center hospital - but then you will probably have to move around a bit during 3rd year to get all your cores done.

you could always get married BEFORE taking step one, say mid may, then you could take step I as late as the beginning of august and start in NY with pending step scores.
