Anyone out there have info on Atlantic???

Does anyone have any info on Atlantic Health Care??? I just got placed here for my 3rd year rotations, which I am not happy about seeing as it was my 3rd choice. Anyway, can someone please give me any info or experiences that they have had???? Where do we do which rotations morristown/overlook? Where is the psych rotation? What was your experience like? I am getting a bit worried bc I have read a few posts on here that said people got placed at Atlantic then last minute switched. Any info would help at this point!

surgery and obgyn are done at overlook. for medicine, some ppl get overlook, some get morristown. its random. both are good though. peds is done at morristown. psych is done elsewhere, some random place, usually in manhattan.

overlook and morristown are only like 15 minutes apart so its not too bad however you get placed. im at atlantic and its awesome.

this is the first time i think ive ever posted on this site. feel special

I am also one of the select few (10 of us) doing all of his/her cores here at Atlantic, though there are more who have done a few cores here. I have liked it a lot as I am halfway through.

Right now, surgery and ob/gyn are at overlook. THey do not have their own residency program but they have residents who rotate through here. For surgery it's columbia residents (= very smart) and for OB it's UMDNJ residents. With you guys what helps is that they are starting their own residency program in 2008, so depending on when you have OB you'll have your own residents. Morristown has their own residency programs, but right now they have the spots locked up for UMDNJ students. That is about to change, however, as UMDNJ is pulling out and Mount Sinai is slowly trickling in (they are the new people who certify the residencies here). So you might be able to do surgery and/or OB at morristown. Stay tuned.

In terms of Medicine, you either have it at Morristown or at Overlook, they are slightly different and they might change some of the finer points, but everyone so far has enjoyed their medicine rotation. It's very laid back here but the faculty/residents teach. They both have their own individual residency programs so they have a tradition of teaching there. But like every hospital some residents/attendings are better than others.

Peds you do at Morristown, although the residents are at both Overlook and Morristown (it's joint). The residency program is really good and a lot of the residents are SGU grads; about half of the current interns are from SGU. I personally thought Peds was OK, but the residents are all really nice and bright as well.

Family Medicine (6 weeks), though not a core, is an "Additional Third Year Requirement" for us. This is a good thing; with more and more states requiring FP as a rotation, students who did not have FP in their cores are scrambling to sign up during electives and they are running into many problems. My only issue with it is it is for 6 weeks, when we only need 4. So the other 2 weeks count as "elective time" which we already have a limited amount of. Anyways, you do FP at Overlook or Mountainside, though now that Mountainside is on its own I don't know if students will be getting both from here. They are both excellent programs and it was a fun rotation to relax between Med/Peds and Surgery.

Psych you do elsewhere, whether that be Bergen, Manhattan Psych, Metropolitan in Manhattan, or Baltimore. You have to go through clin ed to take care of that.

In terms of locations, both are suburban, so you'll probably never see a GSW (I still haven't). Morristown is bigger and busier, both are about 15 minutes apart, but you definitely need a car around here.

I love it here, but I'm already sick of cores. 30 weeks down, 18 to go!

Hope that helps.
