    WiFi at hospitals?

I am thinking about purchasing a PDA for rotations. However, I feel hesitant to fork over money for a voice plan AND a data plan. Do SGU hospitals have WiFi so that we can access the internet without a data plan? If someone knows the answer to this question for St. Joe's in NJ specifically, that would be great.

    Thanks,
    SK

While I did not rotate at St. Joe's, all 5 of the hospitals that I have rotated/worked at did not have WiFi for internet (though they do have it for the HIS), so I think it is kind of rare.

If you do opt for a pda with a data plan, and you are on Sprint/Nextel, sign up for the SERO plan - 500 anytime minutes, free nights and weekends starting at 7, unlimited data and text for $30/month (compared to Verizon's $80). The email address to access is savings@sprint.com.

I bought the Treo with the Sprint Sero plan. $30/month and unlimited data. It's pretty good!

Do any of the NYC hospitals have Wi-fi?

I was thinking of just getting a real cheap cell phone plan and carrying around a jail-broken Ipod touch for Epocrates, Medscape, med-calc etc. can't think of too many other reasons to need a smartphone for?

smartphones are great for spending all the free time you have during clinicals sitting around and not doing anything. being able to txt easily with friends, playing games is important. you'll have a lot of down time. but then again an ipod touch can do all those things too.
