Anyone ever set up an ER rotation at Cook County in Chicago?

Hey,

I posted this in the Saba clinicals forum but got no reply. Sorry for the repost.

I heard and read that Cook County Hospital in Chicago is the place to be for anyone interested in EM.

Is it at all possible to land an elective there as an SGU student?

Haven't heard of one yet

Their EM residency website states that only Canadian and American 4th year students are allowed to rotate. However, if you would like to confirm, here's the Student Coordinator's number 312-864-0062.

if you are interested in EM, i would go check out the SDN network forum, and read the EM forum under it.

also check out SAEM website.

but in short, cook county is good, but doesnt have to be "the one" if you are intrerested in EM

you will be suprise at which EM program is consider "good", some of them you probably have never heard of.

Stroger (cook county ) hospital sometimes grands permission for ER rotation for foreign students on case-by-case basis. I did that rotation in July 2007. I am a Ross graduate. Call them directly to ask for availability:312-864-0062

had a friend who rotated through there (sorry he's AMG so can't help there) and he said while the numbers are high, the acuity is low to middle, so you will be quite busy, but will have a lot of junk mixed in with the cool stuff.

UMDNJ is a good place to get a feel for what EM is like (if that is the point of doing the rotation for you)- high numbers high acuity...you will definitely get a sense if EM is cut out for you.

Is that because the show ER is loosely based on that ED?
