Ferry to saba from st. martin

Hi,

Has anyone taken the ferry from st. martin to saba? How much is it? How long is the trip? Do they accept US dollars? Where exactly is the ferry from the airport?

Any diffculties with passports or anything at st. martin to get to saba?

Also, has anyone taken the winward airlines from st. martin to saba?

Thanks,
Aaron

SXM to Saba

You've listed the only two ways to get on Saba. Most people take the WinAir twin-prop hovercraft with the completely nutso, erm ... scenic landing. It takes about 12 minutes to cover the 28 miles from St. Maarten (since it leaves from the Dutch airport) to Saba. Once you arrive on Saba, you'll be able to get your temporary Dutch citizenship, which allows you a cheaper rate from Saba to St. Maarten, Anguilla, St. Barths in the future, and lets you cut in line at the St. Maarten airport (you can take the Dutch citizenship line).

The boat is another option, though it takes longer and only runs on certain days. You should inquire about the times for this trip. However, it's a fun trip and very palatable with a few beers along the way. If you get seasick though, go with the plane. The boat docks down at the Bottom, a little skip down the side of the mountain from the school, and on the completely opposite side from the airport. Enjoy the trip.

Tony

Ferry

IF you have a lot of luggage to bring, then take the boat, unless you get seasick. Even if you do get a doc in the US to prescribe you a scopolamine patch and you will do very well. It is a nice trip and you get free beer on the way!!! The pier is on the other side of the island from the airport. If you are staying in the Bottom it will be a cheaper cab ride. Call the school and make sure someone will pick you up. They will do that for free with incoming students.
Good luck and enjoy the island.
