Hey guys...

So currently I'm trying to apply for the sept 2010 semester (the earlier the better right?) my stats are a 3.0 overall and a 3.0 science with my last year at a 3.3 and my last semester straight A's.... cause of my low gpa I took the MCAT and got a 29Q... 8 in PS... 8 in VR... and a 13 in Bio sci... Also what are the stats that i'll get in after my third uni year? (just finished my second).

I also have a lot of clinical, volunteer and fundraising experiance which rages from hospital work to work with the homeless and disabled. Should I apply and see how it goes?

You have a fairly solid portfolio. Yes, applying early always helps as I've said before. You may have a shot at a D.O. school and maybe even US M.D. if you're able to jack up you GPA to about 3.5, which should be doable if you're in your 2nd year. If you're from Canada, your chances of getting into Canadian med school are close to nada.

That's not true. A lot of the eastern schoolswill excuse certain classes or only base the gpa calculations on sciences and last 60 credits. UBC's min is 2.7 (obviously doesn't mean much if you look at the stats of accepted students) but it doesn't exclude everyone on the basis of gpa.

yeah because UBC gives priority to BC students..if you are from eastern Canada with a 3.5, the chances of getting into MD school is very slim (unless you are from the rural area or small village up north in Ontario).

Every school gives priority to its provinces residents and the same works for UBC. Unless you're willing to go up north to the Prince George campus you have to be damn competitive to get an interview. A friend of mine was recently turned down with a 3.5 GPA and 38 MCAT due to "not enough life experience." He is from BC

Yeah BC is very selective on extra-curricular activities. One of my friends got in at the U of A but did not get into UBC because of the "life experiance" issue.

Ontario has no preference for its own students... (i will not respond further on canadian MD schools as this forum is about SUSOM)

you will get in all 4.... I'd suggest you find US or Canadian schools that give a huge weight to masters and calculate your gpa differently and apply to those schools first (like University of Western Ontario - Schulic MD School) but then Saba is also a pretty good school with a solid reputation (better than Ross in my opinion)... congrats to your achievements and I hope more come to you in the near future as well

hey guys, new to the forums here, thought I'd seek some advice about applying to the carribbean medical schools.

I graduated last year, and have been taking some time off to retake the MCAT (got a 22 last year). I will be taking it on July 17th, and I've been averaging 26-28 on my practice tests. I was a biology major with a chem minor, and I had a 3.4 cumulative gpa, and a 3.3 science gpa. I have done over 400 hours in hospital volunteering, 250 in research, and 150 in shadowing m.d. Over the past few weeks I've been looking at applying to med schools in the carribbean, because of my uncertainty that I can get into some allopathic schools. I'm looking at the big 4, and was hoping that some of you could add some advice into what are my chances of getting into any of these schools.

I was wondering that if I apply around August, will I be too late for admission into the january class, or will I be too early for admission into the fall class. Also, should I wait til after my July date is done for a new score, or do I have a chance applying with a 22. Thanks for the help!
