hopefulmd123 you have a good chance. Your science GPA is a little low, but you have a average MCAT and good activities. Just do good on your interview and I think you should be fine. Ill keep my fingers crossed for you...good luck

Hi Guys i just wanna get some advice. i took my mcat and got an 8PS,7BS,3VR = 18. i know its really low and i need to work on my VR. GPA is 3.4 in US standards when i got my credentials evaluated because i did my premed in philippines. i also took a biochem class here in US and got an "A" from that and i have lots of shadowing and volunteer work and I'm working in medical records in a hospital. what should i do? apply with that mcat? apply without showing that mcat or retake the mcat then apply? any advice will be appreciated. thanks.

i think you have to show your mcat if you have written it. I would call/email the admissions office and ask for some advice. It wouldn't suprise me if they made you re-write the mcat. maybe accept your conditonally with a re-write.
Who knows tho?
Good Luck.

might make you retake it, but best idea is to call office and ask them what to do...GPA is good but MCAT needs improvment. I think you are better off showing the MCAT than not.

I Have A Problem

LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO GET ACCEPTED TO SABA FOR JAN09, STATS~3.5GPA WITH NO MCAT; CHEM MAJOR. ( i think my strong point was the fact that i was able to finish a semester with all AS and a B while having a baby during that sememester). Anyways my question to yall is do you think i can finish the medical program as a single mother or should i let a relative watch my son while i complete the program. IM SO CONFUSED

How old is your child now? You will need extensive child care/babysitting on the island if you bring your child. If you decide to bring your child to the island you might contact the Significant Others group by emailing sos@saba.edu. Someone may very likely have a spouse on the island that would watch your child. Also, I know that there are local people that baby sit also.
I had 3 small children on the island for half of basic sciences, but my spouse stayed home with them. I was by no means the primary care giver for my kids. Even when I was home though I had to lock myself in my room to study without distraction. Had to study either a few hours each night, or alternatively study non-stop for the weekend prior to tests locked in my room with ear plugs. Sometimes I studied in the library at the school. Having experienced being alone on the island as well as having them there with me, I have mixed feelings. Alone I was able to focus better on studying, but I was more homesick and lonely. With them on the island, I was never lonely but had to work hard to find quiet study time. Perhaps splitting time between being on the island with you and at home with a relative could be an option to consider. At any rate, do contact the SOS group, many people have had kids on the island and I know at least one or two has been a single parent.

single mom in med school

my son is currently five months but will be about a year and three months when i start the program. One of the interviewer suggest that i leave my son in the states because they think that i wont be able to complete the program as a single mother. yeah i would like to get in contact with a single parent who is currently in the program, thanks wolfvgang22

I am always awestruck in the determination some people have to become doctors that no matter the circumstances, they are willing to push forward. You are a courageous woman. I wish you the very best of luck.
