Ya, that is ridiculous that they'd pick at that nutrition class, it's not even a pre-req !? So are you accepted or what?

Well, here goes. I know yall don't really know, but I'll post here anyway. I graduated with a 2.7 in Human nutrition (I worked 2 jobs, and did ROTC, and didn't take school as seriosly as I should have). I went on active duty as an Army officer and went to Iraq. I got some real world combat medical experience and now I want to get out and go to med school. I took physics 1 &2 at a CC and got a 4.0. I took Anatomy at BYU and got an A, and retook Organic Chem at Oregon State and received an A. Also, got an A in Bio 1 when I retook that. I volunteered in my free time at the Battalion aid station in Iraq, and am combat lifesaver qualified. I also have volunteer time both at the VA Hospital in college, as well as time at my uncle's FL clinic. I am also planning to take more college courses probably, though the rest of my pre-reqs are done. My MCAT is 27Q (8PS, 11VR, 8BS Q), I just took it after getting back from Iraq. My question, is what can I do to really help my application and do yall think I have a shot? Thanks!

Hey lsmith55uf,

Sounds like you're on the right track.
They ask applicants for MCAT when some ( I don't know how many ) courses are done at the college level and/or if you have left school for a few years.

You have a very impressive list of experiences/training and it is obvious that as a student you would be able to contribute greatly to the school. I would play that up.

I do think 2.7 is low however a) in your recent courses you have proved that you can achieve excellent grades and that you can improve ( that is more important than having a straight 3.0 from year1-4 ) b) your pre-req courses' marks are excellent.

I believe you certainly have a shot and should get applying :-)

Cheers!

My chances

I graduated last year with a bachelors in Psychology, and Biology minor. My overall GPA is 3.11 and my science GPA is probably 2.9. My question is what kind of MCAT score should I be shooting for in order to have a good shot at SABA?

Also, I read on their website that they can waive the MCAT? In which cases do they do this?

...at their discretion, as for as I know there is no GPA cutoff for which they ask for MCAT scores, not that they advertise openly anyway. Just as a measure I had a slighly better GPA than yours (overall and science over 3.2) and was asked to take the MCAT before I was considered. While no two candidates are the same, if I were you I would not be surprised if they asked for MCAT scores. Anywhere in the mid twenties would be a safe guess. Good luck.

What are my chances for the fall 2008 semester. My overall GPA is 3.56 and my science GPA is 3.46. I have research experience, volunteering, several good letters of rec, and more. I go to a good school, University of Pittsburgh.

Also what is the average GPA and MCAT score for SABA?

I have taken the MCAT but I scored low on the verbal section so I decided not to summit my scores. The other sections were fine.

Seanba,

I have been admitted for Fall08 and my GPA is 3.5 from a "reputable" uni. , also with research/(+) extracurricular activities/ good letters of rec ...etc.

Unlike you, I did not take the MCAT.

They did not ask one single question regarding my GPA/lack of MCAT etc.

While many here would disagree, I believe that it is fairly easy to get into SABA : it appears that nearly all who applied, do get in.
It is a school in the Caribb, they want your $$$.
You have GPA's ranging from 2.8 - 3.8, with or without MCAT. The majority hovers at a low 3.0.

Apply, and you, like the rest, will CERTAINLY get in.

last hope?

Hi everyone, I am graduating from a private university in CA. I will have a B.S. in Biology and an overall GPA of around 3.0 and a science of 2.7. I also have numerous hours of volunteer work at a medical clinic for homeless people and also six years of volunteer work in an alzheimers assisted living home. Additionally, I also have two years work experience in Kaiser Permanente pharmacy as a pharm tech. Please give me feedback about my chances of getting into SABA/SGU/AUC/or ROSS within the next cycle.
