I recently received my MCAT scores. I got a 20 Q on the exam. My GPA is around 2.8-2.9ish or may be even 3.0. I majored in Biological Sciences w/ a minor in Marketing.
I am pasting a table with my science grades. I would highly appreciate your analysis on my chances for the May, 2008 Semester. I have great LOR's and a good Personal Statement. If I have to retake the MCAT (which I'm thinking of taking again in September) should I apply now and tell them that I'm retaking the MCAT? Or will it be wise to apply once I get my second score. Class Grade General Chemistry 1 A General Chemistry 2 A Physics 1 B Physics 2 A Biology 1 C Biology 1 C Org Chemistry 1 B Org Chemistry 2 D Biochemistry B Statistics B Math: Calculus 1 A Math: Calculus 2 A Math: Calculus 3 B Math: Linear algebra A Ecology A Genetics 1 B Genetics 2 B Evolution A Animal Physiology C Plant Taxonomy A Oceanography B Biogeography B |

I think you'd be fine. They accept people hovering around 2.9-3.0 ALL the time and they don't even ask for MCAT unless your GPA is lower, maybe in your case but I don't think you need to retake your MCAT. If you're retaking it to get into other schools, ok go for it, otherwise, SABA wouldn't care. When I applied, they didn't even mention the word MCAT. In fact, they didn't even ask anything about my marks/GPA/courses. Go for it & best of luck! |

As you know, none of us here are admission personnel. So, believe in yourself and just apply. Try applying to AUA and AUC as well.
Not to discourage you or anything but one of the admissions officers at SABA told me that they look at Org Chem as a guide for med school. Good Luck |

I am with you but this is what I was told. I guess b/c it is a hard course they use this to see how well you would cope with the more difficult material. If you get a D in Org Chem, how will you deal with biochem, histo, genetics all at the same time. This is maybe their thought process.

Is oganic chem really that difficult?
I got a conditional acceptance to Saba granted i get B or higher in Organic Chem. Does it rely on a sound knowledge of chemistry, math, or is there just too much content to remember?

Org chem isn't really that bad.
If you have a good prof that explains all the mechs clearly, any one can get an -A or higher without much effort. I would say it's more memorization of mech's, then being able to recognize when to use which mech's. (ie. Retro's, etc) It's like 5% general general chemistry. Good luck! |
