re
I know "what are my chances" threads are a beat down, but I have a 2.95 in MBIO with volunteer exp along with hospital(ER tech) work experience, also I took the MCAT a couple weeks back and I was scoring in the 22-24 range. I also have two or three good LOR's. With these kind of stats, how would you consider my chances of acceptance in the top 4(Caribbean) schools. Please reply with as many suggestions as possible. Thank you.

Coming back to Texas is tricky, and I've posted a lot on it. Do a search for licensure AND Texas, there is a lot of good info myself and JulesTX and others have posted in the past.

question
Hello everyone, I'm also thinking about going to medical school and I definetly feel a lititle self-conscious reading some of these other peoples qualifications. But I will post my info anyways
With my info in mind, do I have to get a high mcat to stand a chance? If take some more classes like biochem and get A's will that give me a better chance or is it futile? I know my grades arent the best but I worked fulltime while going to school and after being an emt for the last year I really have the itch to take it to the next level. Be as brutally honest as possible, Thanks. |

Response.
Salutations "warrensmith":
With regards to your question concerning admittance, you can definitely get accepted into the school. There have been numerous people who have gotten in with similar stats as yourself. If you were to take more classes and receive A's in them, that would definitely be a booster in your application. Not only would it demonstrate to the admissions committee that you are capable of performing well but it also demonstrates your commitment to the profession. Heck, even if you get a "B" in the courses it would still look stellar. In addition, the fact that you have been an EMT, which demonstrates that you have some experience in the field, as well as your other volunteer experiences will impress the admissions committee. The bottom line is go for it. Do not have second thoughts about applying. The only question you have to ask yourself is "When" to apply. At the moment, if you are planning on entering the September semester, keep in mind that this is the most competitive semester to get into. With that thought in mind, you can still apply for it and if you do not get in, they may place you into another semester. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Ciao.

wondering what are my chances of getting accepted based on your experiences?
1.undergraduate ( dual major in Biology and Natural Sciences)= tons of science courses 2. graduate GPA 3.9 in more than 70 quarter units in Education ( teaching credentials/bio and chem high school teacher for the last 6 years) while working 3 jobs (approximantely 80 hrs per week). 3. 9 years of experience working as a lab tech in the Pathology department of a major hospital in LA. 4. excellent letters of reccomendations from 2 professors, Pathology supervisor and a doctor/physician working in the private sector. 5. I am planning to take the MCAT in april 2006. I am just wondering if I should apply now for sept 2006 or should I wait until I have the MCAT according to my stats? please be honest Last edited by cabrillo; 08-19-2005 at 03:40 AM. |
