What are my chances for admission to Saba University School

This is certainly not meant to provide the definitive answer to the question:

"Can I get in with these stats?"

I know from experience though that the question weighs heavily on some folks' minds, so I thought it might be good to place this thread at the top.

I always encourage potential applicants to give the folks at Gardner a call for the best advice about admissions, but I also encourage current students and potential students to chime in with their own stories and their own information about applying and being admitted to Saba.

    Give it a shot 8)

Best of Luck to Us All!

I got in with a 3.0 in professional chemistry and a physics minor. I was uncertain about my chances because I didn't have an MCAT or any hospital work but I had a good interview and got two real good letters of rec.

    i'll b there may '04

my stats are as follows: overall GPA 3.56, science/math GPA 3.43, B.S. in Genetics from UC Davis. i had letters of rec from 4 people, one from my lab supervisor, one from the lab director/pathologist, a letter from an ER doc at the hospital i work at, and a letter from the meditech supervisor at the other hospital i work at. i have 2+ years of clinical experience... but no volunteerism, and that's about it.

i got into several other schools, but i chose saba because they have NY approval.

I have a 3.0 cumulative and a 2.6-2.7 premed gpa. i have not taken the mcat but will in august with 3 months of nothing but studying for that. I also have two years of hands on experience in the medical field, what do you think my chances are of getting in.
    thanks

    Good

I'd say your chances are good if you can pull of a good MCAT score. You must get over 20 to have a chance. 25 will give you a pretty good chance I think.

Whatever the number turns out to be, make sure you apply. Everyone on this forum gives out "best guesses". Better make absolutely sure, send in your application.

Also, send in applications to many schools. Everyone evaluates applications differently. JGilbert63 was just accepted today at AUC but was rejected from Saba last November. Then there are those rejected from AUC but accepted at SABA. You never know!

If you apply to the top 4-5 schools, my guess is you have a 99% chance of being admitted assuming you do reasonably well on the MCAT.

    Good Luck! Keep us posted!

    Also, keep in mind

that they look at the total package, not just MCAT and GPA. Since I was accepted for the Jan. '05 class, I'm proof:

    Cum. GPA: 3.25
Undergrad GPA: 2.95 (darn freshman year....stupidly worked full time, etc)
    Science GPA: 3.47

    ** Biology & Chemistry
    BA Psychology & Religion
    MEd. Science

Experience: EMT-B; 2 years experience as mental health case manager; 2 years high school science teacher (physics, bio., chem), 1 year teaching college bio 101

    MCAT: not taken

    well

I don't know about other schools, but in my case Saba looked at both grades and asked me to explain any failed, dropped, or retaken courses in the interview.
Your GPA is good in any case, so I wouldn't worry if you have a good reason for repeating a course (like working full time at night, etc.)

Just be honest, straightforward, and confident in your abilities, and make sure your other qualities (clinical experience, MCAT, personal statement etc) really stand out.
