What are my chances for admission to Saba University School

This is certainly not meant to provide the definitive answer to the question:

"Can I get in with these stats?"

I know from experience though that the question weighs heavily on some folks' minds, so I thought it might be good to place this thread at the top.

I always encourage potential applicants to give the folks at Gardner a call for the best advice about admissions, but I also encourage current students and potential students to chime in with their own stories and their own information about applying and being admitted to Saba.

    Give it a shot 8)

Best of Luck to Us All!

    BSc. Biology (Physiology Specialization) (McMaster!)
cGPA= 3.7 (REALLY screwed up first year...but caught up a bit in 3rd and 4th year)
sGPA=3.63 (if I'm calculating this correctly....)
    MCAT PS/VR/**= 9/10/14 R
Lot's of work and research, volunteering, some clinical, experiences.
I applied to Canadian and some US schools. Waitlisted on a Canadian school but ditto on the US ones . I really don't want to do a Master's program so I guess Caribbean is my only option left...
Help would be greatly appreciated!!! I know Saba is rigorous, but they have one of the most # of people returning to Canada for residencies out of the Caribbean schools.

did you ask the schools that wait listed you why you were wait listed and what you could do to improve your chances? if they are doable, you should try and get into the US or canadian schools, even if it means waiting a yr (or 2).

    Wow quick reply !! Thanks!

No... they're a bit tight-lipped in Canada (argh!)...I wonder if I spam their mailbox if they'll let me know??

For US, I figure it's probably because I applied late? I was rejected pre-interview for the US schools.

I actually waited a year already because I graduated in 2011, so this year I (took some extra courses such as physics and English for the US schools). I know it's competitive for the September entrances in the Caribbean, so hopefully I still have a shot here!

are you a US citizen or have a GC? if so, you really should reapply, (on the FIRST day applications are accepted) and try again.

should see if you could set up an appointment with any of the deans of admission to discuss your application and what you need to improve it for next year.

thought you said you wait listed in the US as well...so how could you be rejected pre interview?

oops sorry.... I probably meant to say that I was rejected on the US ones pre-interview. editing that post now.

I'm Canadian... so I probably fell below the cutoff line for a lot of the US schools.

Hey, I was in a similar situation. I ended up going to Saba, you would easily get in as far as I know.

That said, I really think it would be to your benefit to make any improvements you can and try again with Canada and the US. Saba, as much as I appreciate what it allowed me to do, is a second chance school, and a very difficult one at that.

I do not regret my decision to go to Saba, and I think that if you wind up having no other choice its a fine option. But, I wouldn't come to that decision after one round of waitlist/rejections, especially with such decent stats.

Thanks!! I'll definitely take your advice into consideration if I receive the Saba offer. I've read some [horrifying] stuff on how rigorous the curriculum is at Saba, so I've got some soul searching to do, I guess.

I think you should at least apply. I don't know how competitive those are exactly, but I think you'd have a pretty good chance.

If the dean of admissions told you that you were competitive, why would you want a second opinion from us? Apply. Or if you are having doubts, don't apply. But to me it sounds like you got your answer from the authority that matters.

@hitman: Dr. B is the guy who does the interviews. So, uh, yeah. If he says it's true, it's true, and definitely better than what you're gonna get on VMD. Doesn't get any better, actually. You're competitive. Stop wasting your time on here and go apply.
