What are my chances for admission to Saba University School

This is certainly not meant to provide the definitive answer to the question:

"Can I get in with these stats?"

I know from experience though that the question weighs heavily on some folks' minds, so I thought it might be good to place this thread at the top.

I always encourage potential applicants to give the folks at Gardner a call for the best advice about admissions, but I also encourage current students and potential students to chime in with their own stories and their own information about applying and being admitted to Saba.

    Give it a shot 8)

Best of Luck to Us All!

    cumGPA (from UCIrvine) : 3.208
science gpa (according to my transcript) : ~3.1 ish
    MCAT: 24Q (V:10 B:8 P:6)

I only have 2 retakes: 1 from when I got a D+ IN GEN chem 1 (out of 3) my very first quarter and then got a B-, and the second from physics 1 (out of 3) in which I got a C- retook and then got a C.

I am also thinking of retaking the MCAT Aug. 5th but I wanted to figure out if it was necessary or not so I called Ross and I was told that with my stats it was unecessary. soo I am wondering if they were bull****ing me and that my stats would just place me in merp or am I a legit candidate for direct admission? I might as well ask what my chances would be for AUC and ROSS too.

2 years of research, 100+ hours at a free clinic, member of a couple clubs, dean's list a few times, shadowed a doc for 3 years, volunteeres at a state mental disabilities hospital

    thanks for the help!
this is not the right place to ask about AUC / ROSS... but you should be good for Saba.

Sorry about that, I didnt mean to have ROSS and AUC in this post but it just got so repetitive typing up my stats so I may have overzealously copy and pasted lol. Another concern that I have is that I won't be able to submit my application until mid August at the latest due to me waiting on some letters of rec to get finished up, do you think this is way too late to be applying for Jan 2011? Thanks for the help!

Does anyone know how they calculate the Science GPA in Saba if you were a General Biology Major? For Biology, I took Zoology, Botany, Entomology, Parasitology, Microbiology, Physics I and II, Anatomy and Physiology, Comparative Anatomy, Systemic Zoology, Histology, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Systemic Botany, Ecology, Pathology, Evolution, Vertebrate Embryology. Now do I calculate all these in to get my Science GPA or do I just Calculate the Anatomy, and Zoology classes because everything else is Biology? Hope to hear from anyone. Thanks

My cGPA is a 2.9 and sGPA is a 2.5....I know they are pretty low but first year was all a big mess for me....The last 51 units were a 3.92GPA and for 20 units that were mostly science courses. Freshman year was in 1994 and failed Chemistry 2X then third got a D... but last year took it and was in the top of my class. got A's on Chem 1A and 1B... Do you think they will look at the improvements that I have made within the last 15 years? Or will it just be black and White GPA and MCAT scores. I have been working in the lab as a lab tech/phlebotomist for the past 5 years. What do you think. Please let me know. Thanks

    What are my chances....please?

    SGPA 3.21
CGPA: I really dont know, I went to two different colleges so...i think it's a 3.0.

I had my start in a Community College and eventually graduated with a bachelors. MCAT is 12, verbal KILLED ME! I took it 2 times.

I was published and have over 1000 hours of volunteer service. In addition, I was on the Deans' list.

I am planning to apply for Jan2011

@Badtz: Your GPA and history are good, but with that MCAT, I do not personally think it would happen. It would probably be better if you have not taken the MCAT at all rather than submit with that score. With that being said, I believe they are trying to admit most people with MCATs, so you are in a tough position. The only advice I can think of is atleast try to get it close to 24 on a third time before you apply. If you significantly improve your score, then I think you might have a chance. I would reccomend you not take the MCAT again until you have done several practice ones and are scoring at a fairly high average. Also, I would suggest you not submit the exam unless you feel good about your performance. After the third try if it is not close to 24, I do not think there is much you can do.

Does anyone know what Saba would say in that situation? I mean you are required to submit MCAT scores if you have taken them and Saba I think is making most people take it with average GPAs.

@Jeff: Saba is notorious about looking at how you have improved. But, those GPAs are low. I did not see any mention of the MCAT to balance them out either. In answer to your question, Saba takes a much more complete approach and looks at everything. But it is tough to get past square one without at least average scores. What I would think is you would need a bit higher MCAT to balance those GPAs out.

    GADoctor

    GADoctor,

Thanks for the insight. Being a phlebotomist working in the hospital for the past 5 years won't help? Will 10 or more recommendations from Doctors help me? What about having a second degree course of nursing and then working for 1 year? Of course grades will have to be straight A's. I was accepted already to an Accelerated BSN program. What do you think? Thanks
